Il est vraisemblable qu'il ait \u00e9t\u00e9 longtemps confondu avec le seul autre Urothemis bleu, beaucoup plus commun et plus facile \u00e0 approcher, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meslibellules.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/urothemis-edwardsii-male-1.jpg\">U. edwardsii<\/a> (car nous l'avons observ\u00e9 sur une mare, tr\u00e8s loin de nous, \u00e0 environ une quinzaine de m\u00e8tres). Il y a cinq Urothemis en Afrique, 9 dans le monde, tous rouges sauf les deux cit\u00e9s.<br>Il est effectivement tr\u00e8s proche de son cousin bleu, m\u00eame si, \u00e0 distance, la nervation pr\u00e8s des nervures principales est largement plus rouge, comme on le note tr\u00e8s facilement ci-dessous. U. edwardsii atteint 38 \u00e0 44 mm.<br>Nous l'avons trouv\u00e9 sur une mare ou un \u00e9tang, bien v\u00e9g\u00e9talis\u00e9, au bord de la route, mais bord\u00e9 par la for\u00eat sur ses autres c\u00f4t\u00e9s, une pi\u00e8ce d'eau extraordinaire puisque nous y avons trouv\u00e9 3 nouvelles esp\u00e8ces pour le Ghana ! Il fr\u00e9quenterait aussi les eaux temporaires.<br>Sa pr\u00e9sence n'est actuellement confirm\u00e9e qu'au Liberia et au Sierra Leone \u00e0 l'ouest, au Congo et au Cameroun \u00e0 l'est et au Nigeria. Themis, \u2013 d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 de nombreuses fois depuis Hagen (1861), et Brauer a suivi la mode en 1868 quand il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce genre, pour <em>U. bisignata<\/em>. Le nom de la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces.<br><strong>Venata<\/strong> : les auteurs \u00e9crivent : \"Latin \u201cveined\u201d for the artery-like red wing veins (feminine adjective) - Du latin \"vein\u00e9\" pour les nervures alaires rouges ressemblant \u00e0 des art\u00e8res (adjectif f\u00e9minin).\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:13px\">Dijkstra, K.-D.B., M\u00e9zi\u00e8re, N., and Kipping, J.
