Trithemis grouti fait partie d’un genre qui compte 51 esp\u00e8ces dans le monde et 43 en Afrique. C’est un genre difficile, presque autant que le genre Orthetrum qui compte 36 esp\u00e8ces en Afrique.
13 esp\u00e8ces \u00e9taient connues au Ghana, et nous en avons ajout\u00e9 une quatorzi\u00e8me avec T. anea.
Ils sont class\u00e9s par groupe et Trithemis grouti appartient au genre stictica<\/em> (comme T. aenea)… bien qu’il rappelle les esp\u00e8ces du genre dorsalis (ADDO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On note le vertex et le dessus du front violet m\u00e9tallique, parfois bleu violac\u00e9, les segments abdominaux S4 \u00e0 S7 avec une seule rang\u00e9e (ou pas) de fines bandes jaunes (\u00e0 peine visibles ci-dessous), l’abdomen tr\u00e8s sombre comme le thorax.
Plusieurs Trithemis bleus ont l’abdomen sombre, mais l’association abdomen et thorax sombres avec ces yeux rouge\u00e2tres et le front et vertex violac\u00e9 m\u00e9tallique est unique (le plus proche serait T. nuptialis<\/em><\/a> (ADDO<\/a>)). Le nombre de nervures d’ant\u00e9nodales atteint 11\u00bd \u00e0 12\u00bd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pinhey (1961) qualifie Trithemis grouti de \u00ab\u00a0grand Trithemis noir\u00a0\u00bb (Black Dropwing ou Dark Dropwing <\/em>en anglais) et mesure son abdomen \u00e0 26 mm, sans les appendices anaux. Il mesure donc \u00e0 peine plus de 40 mm au total (T. annulata que nous connaissons bien en France atteint 32 \u00e0 38 mm).
Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 quatre fois, dont une pr\u00e8s d’une mare foresti\u00e8re et deux autres sur des ruisseaux lents s’\u00e9largissant par endroits en mares, en milieu bien ouvert. On retrouve tout \u00e0 fait cette notion de diversit\u00e9 de milieux dans la description qu’en fait K.-D. Dijkstra sur le site ADDO<\/a>.

Il pr\u00e9sente une large distribution depuis, \u00e0 l’est, l’Ouganda, la Tanzanie et la Zambie, \u00e0 travers l’Afrique de l’Ouest, jusqu’au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et \u00e0 la Gambie.

J’ai eu a posteriori quelques doutes pour la photo ci-dessous car je ne comptais que 10 \u00bd nervures ant\u00e9nodales \u00e0 droite, ce que je trouvais peu pour cette esp\u00e8ce ; mais il y en a bien 11 \u00bd \u00e0 gauche (il faut agrandir et \u00e9claircir la photo pour voir la premi\u00e8re).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>\u00a0Trithemis grouti
Trithemis<\/strong>\u00a0est compos\u00e9 du pr\u00e9fixe\u00a0tri<\/em>, pour\u00a0trois<\/em>, sans doute parce que la marge post\u00e9rieure du pronotum des esp\u00e8ces de ce genre est trilob\u00e9e, et de Themis qui est la d\u00e9esse de la loi divine, de l\u2019ordre et de la justice<\/em>. Mais pourquoi Th\u00e9mis ? Certainement parce que d\u2019autres noms de libellules comportaient des noms de dieux comme Echo ou Nehalennia, et quand Brauer a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Trithemis, la mode \u00e9tait toujours \u00ab\u00a0\u00e0 la mythologie\u00a0\u00bb. Ce nom de d\u00e9esse a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9, selon Fliedner (2006), plus de 50 fois, pour nommer des odonates et ce n\u2019est que justice car \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9tant la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre, Th\u00e9mis est une tr\u00e8s convenable patronne des taxinomistes\u00a0\u00bb.
