C’est la premi\u00e8re matin\u00e9e de prospection au Ghana ; nous quittons le premier site, je fais un \u00e9cart sur la gauche du chemin en direction de la for\u00eat et je d\u00e9couvre ce magnifique m\u00e2le Phyllomacromia hervei pendant sous un arbre : c’est un s\u00e9jour de prospection qui commence bien !
Les Phyllomacromia sont les seuls repr\u00e9sentants de la famille des Macrommidae en Afrique et ils sont 35, on en conna\u00eet actuellement six au Ghana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils sont r\u00e9put\u00e9s se poser rarement, et nous mesurons la chance que nous avons eue de trouver un m\u00e2le et une femelle (plus tard) pos\u00e9s.
En Afrique de l’Ouest, et en particulier au Ghana, on peut l’identifier par comparaison des bandes thoraciques et par la r\u00e9partition des anneaux jaunes sur l’abdomen. Ils portent tous une expansion pointue sur le dixi\u00e8me segment, ce que l’on voit tr\u00e8s bien sur la photo ci-dessous.
On note \u00e9galement l’expansion ventrale des segments 7, 8 et 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legrand (1980) a mesur\u00e9 la longueur totale du sujet \u00e0 51 mm (mais il note que son abdomen mesure 49 mm, ce qui semble incoh\u00e9rent).
Sur ADDO<\/a> (Dijkstra editor), on lit que son biotope est constitu\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0principalement de rivi\u00e8res, mais aussi des ruisseaux (River cruiser<\/em>, en anglais), dans des zones d\u00e9gag\u00e9es en for\u00eat.\u00a0\u00bb Nous avons trouv\u00e9 le m\u00e2le pr\u00e8s d’une grande zone humide, en limite de for\u00eat, et la femelle ci-dessous dans une petite clairi\u00e8re en for\u00eat ; nous n’avons pas constat\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sence de rivi\u00e8res ou de ruisseaux, mais dans ces deux situations nous ne sommes pas entr\u00e9s en for\u00eat.

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend du Lib\u00e9ria au Cameroun.

Lorsque nous avons rencontr\u00e9 cette femelle, elle \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s loin, dans l’ombre ; je n’ai jamais r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 faire une photo correcte. Les marques jaunes port\u00e9es par m\u00e2le et femelle sont tout \u00e0 fait identiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong> Phyllomacromia hervei
Phyllomacromia<\/strong>, du grec ancien phyllon qui en pr\u00e9fixe signifie feuille et s’applique \u00e0 l’expansion foliac\u00e9e des segments 7 \u00e0 9. Macromia du grec \u2013macro<\/em>\u00a0pour\u00a0grand<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0large<\/em>\u00a0et \u2013omos<\/em>\u00a0pour\u00a0\u00e9paule<\/em>, pour insister sur le thorax massif.
Hervei<\/strong> est un hommage \u00e0 Jean-Pierre Herv\u00e9<\/em>, entomologiste m\u00e9dical, qui a travaill\u00e9 entre autres sur les vecteurs des maladies tropicales et a longuement s\u00e9journ\u00e9 en Afrique subsaharienne et en R\u00e9publique centrafricaine o\u00f9 il a collect\u00e9 un sp\u00e9cimen de cette esp\u00e8ce en 1975.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
