Orthetrum triangulare est facile \u00e0 identifier : la face, le thorax, les deux premiers segments et les derniers sont tr\u00e8s sombres, presque noirs, seule la partie m\u00e9diane de l'abdomen est bleue, couverte d'une pulv\u00e9rulence blanch\u00e2tre ou bleut\u00e9e. \u00c0 la base des ailes post\u00e9rieures, on rel\u00e8ve une petite tache sombre triangulaire.
Au Laos<\/a> ou en Malaisie<\/a>, je n'avais vu que des m\u00e2les matures. J'ai pu voir au Vietnam, un m\u00e2le immature, un accouplement (de loin) et des femelles (en ponte).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure environ 48 mm et sa distribution s'\u00e9tend de l'Afghanistan \u00e0 Hong Kong et du sud de la Chine \u00e0 l'Indon\u00e9sie.
IUCN Red List<\/a>.

Son aire de distribution \u00e9tant gigantesque, il a droit \u00e0 plusieurs noms vernaculaires attribu\u00e9s par les anglophiles : Lesser Blue Skimmer, qui le compare sans doute \u00e0 O. glaucum, et Blue-tailed Forest Hawk, qui est plus surprenant, car l'extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 de son abdomen est plut\u00f4t noire. Mais cette derni\u00e8re appellation renseigne sur son habitat, et en effet, nous l'avons rencontr\u00e9 sur des mares foresti\u00e8res, en aires un peu ouvertes.

Jeune, comme presque toujours pour les Libellulidae, il ressemble aux femelles :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J'ai pu observer le 5 juin \u00e0 Pia Oac un accouplement, rep\u00e9r\u00e9 errant en vol, qui a fini par se poser \u00e0 bonne distance de mon appareil photo et s'est s\u00e9par\u00e9 presque aussit\u00f4t pos\u00e9. La femelle a tout de suite commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 pondre, le m\u00e2le restant \u00e0 la surveiller pour \u00e9carter d'\u00e9ventuels autres m\u00e2les.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin \u00e0 Khau Pha, j'ai rencontr\u00e9 la femelle ci-dessous qui pondait le long de la berge, assez \u00e0 l'ombre malheureusement.

Les femelles ressemblent beaucoup aux femelles O. glaucum<\/a> ; on les diff\u00e9rencie par leurs bandes jaunes thoraciques lat\u00e9rales qui sont plus larges et dont l'ant\u00e9rieure se prolonge vers l'arri\u00e8re dans sa partie sup\u00e9rieure.
Les femelles O. luzonicum<\/a> n'ont pas de bande sombre au milieu du thorax.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Selys a bri\u00e8vement d\u00e9crit l'esp\u00e8ce sous le nom de Libella triangularis, qu'il trouve tr\u00e8s proche de l'esp\u00e8ce qu'il d\u00e9crit juste au-dessus sous le nom de Libella clelia, qui deviendra Orthetrum testaceum.
Orthetrum <\/strong>(2) vient de deux mots grecs, orthos<\/em> signifiant \u00ab droit<\/em>  \u00bb et etron<\/em>  \"abdomen<\/em>\", ceci pour signifier que les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019abdomen sont parall\u00e8les. Ce nom de genre (neutre) cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Newman en 1833 a perdu sa pertinence avec la d\u00e9couverte de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces, mais le nom est rest\u00e9.
Triangulare<\/strong> du latin triangulus<\/em> qui signifie bien s\u00fbr dot\u00e9 de trois angles<\/em>, qui se rapporte certainement \u00e0 la forme de la tache sombre de la base des ailes post\u00e9rieures que d\u00e9crit Selys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
