Gynacantha bullata, Aeshnidae, fait partie d'un genre qui comprend plus de 80 esp\u00e8ces \u00e0 travers le monde (Afrique, Am\u00e9rique, Asie et Oc\u00e9anie), dont 13 esp\u00e8ces en Afrique et 7 au Ghana, mais nous ne contacterons que cette esp\u00e8ce, \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, et G. cylindrata<\/a>.
Heureusement, elle pr\u00e9sente diff\u00e9rentes caract\u00e9ristiques qui permettent son identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outre les deux premiers segments tr\u00e8s dilat\u00e9s, certains d\u00e9tails sont particuli\u00e8rement visibles sur une vue de profil, comme les \"genoux\" noirs sur des pattes claires, ce qui lui vaut son nom anglais de Black-kneed Duskhawker<\/em>.
Son thorax vert pr\u00e9sente des sutures tr\u00e8s discr\u00e8tes, peu marqu\u00e9es de noir.

Noter sur la photo de droite ci-dessus la pr\u00e9sence d'un autre individu cach\u00e9 partiellement par le feuillage ! Sur le terrain, je ne m'en suis aper\u00e7u que lorsqu'ils ont d\u00e9coll\u00e9, c'est dire leur mim\u00e9tisme dans ces endroits sombres.

Enfin les cerques sont tr\u00e8s longs (6 \u00e0 7 mm), 3 fois aussi longs que l'\u00e9piprocte, atteignant la longueur des 3 derniers segments de l'abdomen (ADDO, 2023).

Ce sont des odonates de for\u00eat, actifs au lever du jour et \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, profitant des conditions de basse lumi\u00e8re gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leurs yeux immenses ; ils passent la journ\u00e9e cach\u00e9s en for\u00eat, inactifs, pendant verticalement \u00e0 un rameau ou une feuille. Nous les avons cherch\u00e9s le matin, le long des sentiers forestiers. Ils se contenteraient de mares temporaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karsch mesure son abdomen, sans les appendices anaux, \u00e0 42 mm ; il atteint une longueur totale de plus de 63 mm.

Sa distribution s'\u00e9tend de la Guin\u00e9e et de la Sierra Leone jusqu'en Ouganda, en Tanzanie et au Malawi \u00e0 l'est (il n'est pas confirm\u00e9 au B\u00e9nin).

Le terme\u00a0Gynacantha<\/strong>\u00a0(voir Endersby & Fliedner) a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Rambur \u00e0 partir de deux mots grecs : gyne<\/em> pour\u00a0femelle<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0acantha<\/em>\u00a0pour\u00a0\u00e9pine<\/em>, car les femelles de ce genre portent 2 \u00e9pines sous le 10\u1d49 segment. Rambur \u00e9crit : \"\u2026\u00a0dernier segment chez les femelles, saillant et prolong\u00e9 inf\u00e9rieurement, garni d\u2019\u00e9pines longues (2 \u00e0 3 seulement dans les esp\u00e8ces que je connais)<\/em> \".
Bullata<\/strong>, de l'adjectif latin bullatus qui signifie gonfl\u00e9 comme une bulle<\/em>, v\u00e9siculeux,<\/em> et Karsch \u00e9crit (en allemand) : \"Abdomen tr\u00e8s fortement v\u00e9siculeux \u00e0 la base.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
