Nesciothemis pujoli, Libellulidae, est un tr\u00e8s \u00e9l\u00e9gant odonate, peu commun, que nous avons rencontr\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on inattendue, au bord de la route, au pied d'un pont, agripp\u00e9 \u00e0 des herbes hautes que secouait le vent.
Il fait partie d'un genre qui compte 5 esp\u00e8ces dont 2 seulement sont pr\u00e9sentes au Ghana, Nesciothemis pujoli et N. minor que nous n'avons malheureusement pas rencontr\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le sujet que nous avons observ\u00e9, le seul du s\u00e9jour, est mature mais n'a pas fini son \u00e9volution car les doubles bandes jaunes de son abdomen deviendront noires, soit les segments 4 \u00e0 10. Et cette coloration sombre permet de le s\u00e9parer de N. minor dont seulement les segments 7 \u00e0 10 sont noirs. Il prend d'ailleurs le nom de Western Blacktail<\/em> en anglais.
Pinhey a mesur\u00e9 l'abdomen de son holotype \u00e0 26,5 mm ; il mesure donc environ \u00e0 peine plus de 39 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur l'ADDO, on lit qu'on le trouve sur les eaux stagnantes et sur les rivi\u00e8res, en milieu ouvert.

Sa distribution s'\u00e9tend de la Sierra Leone, de la Guin\u00e9e et du sud du Mali jusqu'\u00e0 la R\u00e9publique centrafricaine.
IUCN Red List<\/a>.

Noter la pr\u00e9sence d'un dipt\u00e8re parasite sur son aile gauche, peut-\u00eatre du genre Forcipomyia<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Origine et \u00e9tymologie : Nesciothemis pujoli<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Nesciothemis<\/strong> : <\/strong>Suhling & Martens (2007) donne l'explication, que fournit d'ailleurs Longfield (1955), mais je n'ai pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 acc\u00e9der au document o\u00f9 ce dernier auteur a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre. Nescio<\/em> vient du verbe latin nescire<\/em> qui signifie j'ignore<\/em>, je ne sais pas<\/em>, et Cynthia Longfield avoue ainsi qu'elle ne sait pas trop o\u00f9 placer cet odonate (N. farinosa<\/em>) qui \u00e9tait avant plac\u00e9 dans les Orthetrum.
Themis, comme il est presque d'usage depuis que Brauer l'a utilis\u00e9 le premier, n'est qu'un signe d'appartenance \u00e0 la famille des Libellulidae ; c'est la d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre, de la justice, et le nom de cette d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces.
Pujoli<\/strong>, Pinhey rend hommage au professeur et chercheur fran\u00e7ais Raymond Pujol (1927\u20132023), agronome et ethnobiologiste de terrain puis professeur d'ethnozoologie au Mus\u00e9um national d'histoire naturelle (MNHN) \u00e0 Paris. Ce scientifique a amass\u00e9 une collection de plus de 500 odonates, autour de Bangui, en R\u00e9publique centrafricaine, entre 1965 et 1969, collection qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 transmise \u00e0 Elliot Pinhey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
