Rhyothemis notata<\/em> fait partie d'un genre particuli\u00e8rement cher aux odonatophiles en raison de la spectaculaire coloration de leurs ailes. J'ai d'ailleurs regroup\u00e9 tous ceux que j'ai rencontr\u00e9s dans le monde sur cette page<\/a>.
Le genre<\/a> compte 22 esp\u00e8ces et une nouvelle qui sera bient\u00f4t d\u00e9crite. Ils ne sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pas faciles \u00e0 approcher et celui-ci ne d\u00e9roge pas \u00e0 la r\u00e8gle, d'autant que le terrain rendait le cheminement difficile, dans de tr\u00e8s hautes herbes denses qui avaient compl\u00e8tement envahi une grande mare.
Deux autres Rhyothemis<\/em> sont pr\u00e9sents au Ghana ; R. fenestrina<\/em> <\/a>(ici en Namibie) que nous rencontrerons plusieurs fois, et R. semihyalina<\/em><\/a> (\u00e9galement en Namibie), que nous n'avons pas contact\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son identification parmi les Rhyothemis<\/em> africains se fait gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'\u00e9tendue de la coloration alaire ; pour l'aile ant\u00e9rieure, elle s'arr\u00eate juste apr\u00e8s le nodus, pour l'aile post\u00e9rieure, elle s'arr\u00eate avant le pt\u00e9rostigma. On note que l'aile post\u00e9rieure est fen\u00eatr\u00e9e<\/em> apr\u00e8s le nodus. Si l'on veut \u00eatre rigoureux, c'est le seul Rhyothemis africain \u00e0 pr\u00e9senter une double rang\u00e9e de cellules dans le champ radial, entre les nervures IR3 et Rspl .
Karsch nous dit que sa longueur totale atteint 28 mm.

On le trouve sur les eaux stagnantes dans les milieux ouverts en for\u00eat, parfois avec un peu d'ombre.

Sa distribution s'\u00e9tend du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal au Gabon et \u00e0 la R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo.

\u00c9tymologie : Rhyothemis notata<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

L'esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite sous le nom de genre Libellula<\/em> par Fabricius et c'est Karsch (1890) qui lui fera rejoindre le genre Rhyothemis<\/em>.
Dans Rhyothemis<\/strong> (Hagen, 1867), on reconna\u00eet le nom de la d\u00e9esse de L'Ordre et de la Justice, fr\u00e9quemment utilis\u00e9 encore apr\u00e8s Hagen, pour nommer des Libellulidae, par imitation de ce que faisaient les anciens en utilisant des noms issus de la mythologie. La premi\u00e8re partie du nom vient sans doute, selon Endersby & Fliedner 2015), d'une roche, la rhyolite<\/em>, d\u00e9couverte en 1861 et dont le nom est compos\u00e9 de 2 mots grecs signifiant -couler<\/em> et -pierre<\/em>, cette roche magmatique montrant des bandes ou couches semblant avoir coul\u00e9 les unes sur les autres. Quand on regarde la rhyolite<\/em>, cette explication est\u2026 surprenante.
Notata<\/strong> est le participe pass\u00e9 du verbe latin notare<\/em> qui signifie marqu\u00e9<\/em> ou tach\u00e9<\/em>. Il \u00e9tait certainement peu ordinaire pour Fabricius de rencontrer un Libellulidae aux ailes si color\u00e9es et il a \u00e9t\u00e9 frapp\u00e9 par la coloration alaire tachet\u00e9e de ce sp\u00e9cimen sec \u00e9pingl\u00e9 dans la collection de Sir Joseph Banks en provenance de Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
