Pseudagrion melanicterum<\/em>, Coenagrionidae, est membre d'un genre gigantesque qui compte actuellement 172 esp\u00e8ces \u00e0 travers l'Afrique, l'Asie et l'Oc\u00e9anie, encore plus nombreux que les Argia am\u00e9ricains (environ 140). Ils sont 71 en Afrique r\u00e9partis en 2 groupes A et B, au moins 17 au Ghana.
Le Farmbush Sprite<\/em> appartient au groupe A ; \"Les esp\u00e8ces de <\/em>Pseudagrion du groupe A<\/em> sont principalement des demoiselles (zygopt\u00e8res) \u00e9lanc\u00e9es, de taille plut\u00f4t petite \u00e0 assez grande (aile post\u00e9rieure de 17 \u00e0 29 mm), de couleur noire avec des touches color\u00e9es sur la t\u00eate, le thorax et les segments abdominaux 7 \u00e0 10<\/em>.\" peut-on lire dans Dijkstra & Clausnitzer (2014)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour ce Pseudagrion melanicterum<\/em>, les touches color\u00e9es sont pour moi surprenantes, jaunes ou vertes sur la t\u00eate et le thorax pour les taches postoculaires et les bandes thoraciques ; beige pour l'extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 distale du S7, le S8 et le S9. Je n'avais jamais vu ce type de couleur sur un m\u00e2le Pseudagrion<\/em> mature. \u00c9tonnamment, certaines taches color\u00e9es des femelles sont bleues.
Si on additionne la coloration et la forme des appendices anaux, il n'y a pas de confusion possible avec un autre Zygopt\u00e8re au Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noter l'encoche sup\u00e9rieure dans la partie post\u00e9rieure de l'\u00e9pisterne m\u00e9tathoracique<\/a> jaune ou vert ; cette encoche se poursuit parfois sous la forme d'un petit trait noir, jusqu'au point noir que porte cet \u00e9pisterne.
Selys (1876) mesure son abdomen \u00e0 32-34 mm. Sa longueur totale est d'environ 40 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l'avons rencontr\u00e9 sur des ruisseaux sombres en for\u00eat, mais \u00e9galement sur un profond ruisseau peu arbor\u00e9 dans une aire ouverte en compagnie de nombreux autres odonates dont Chlorocypha curta<\/em> et pyriformosa<\/em>, Elattoneura nigra<\/em>, Pseudagrion sjoestedti<\/em> , kersteni<\/em> et isidromorai<\/em>, Trithemis grouti<\/em> et arteriosa<\/em>, Tetrathemis camerunensis<\/em>, Orthetrum chrysostigma<\/em> ; tout ceci sur une douzaine de m\u00e8tres !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il a une large distribution en Afrique tropicale ; on le rencontre du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal \u00e0 l'Ouganda, il atteint au sud la Zambie et plus \u00e0 l'ouest le nord de l'Angola.

Nous avons rencontr\u00e9 une femelle isol\u00e9e, \u00e9chapp\u00e9e d'un tandem, qui s'est aussit\u00f4t envol\u00e9e\u2026 Elle pr\u00e9sente les derniers segments caract\u00e9ristiques des femelles, comme on le v\u00e9rifie sur le tandem plus bas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie Pseudagrion melanicterum<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pseudagrion<\/strong> (Endersby & Fliedner, 2015) du grec ancien, pseudo<\/em> \u2013 faux, erron\u00e9,<\/em> et d\u2019agrion<\/em>, ceci, comme l\u2019\u00e9crit Selys (1876), pour t\u00e9moigner de la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 s\u00e9parer ce genre des Agrion ; \u00ab les Pseudagrions semblent tr\u00e8s voisins des vrais Agrions \u00bb. Agrion, du grec Agrios<\/em>\u2013 sauvage<\/em>, vivant dans les champs.
Melanicterum<\/strong> du grec melas<\/em> pour noir<\/em>, sombre <\/em>et de icteros<\/em> qui signifie jaune<\/em>, tout simplement pour rappeler les couleurs de cet odonate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
