Apr\u00e8s 11 heures d’avion, quelques heures d’attente et un premier trajet difficile en mini-bus, je ne suis sans doute pas en forme pour faire des photos de cet Onychothemis testacea (Libellulidae), pos\u00e9 sur des tuyaux tendus au-dessus d’une petite rivi\u00e8re. Heureusement, en Malaisie<\/a>, il s’\u00e9tait av\u00e9r\u00e9 moins craintif.
Mais 2 jours plus tard, je n’ai pas fait mieux avec toujours un sujet dans son attitude classique, perch\u00e9 au-dessus de la rivi\u00e8re, mais toujours difficile \u00e0 approcher :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure 48 mm et est connu pour fr\u00e9quenter les rivi\u00e8res de for\u00eat ; si la 2\u00b0 photo a effectivement \u00e9t\u00e9 prise dans cet environnement, la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tait dans un milieu ouvert.

Son aire de distribution est tr\u00e8s \u00e9tendue, du Sri Lanka et l’Inde jusqu’\u00e0 Hong Kong, Born\u00e9o et la Malaisie P\u00e9ninsulaire.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Onychothemis<\/strong>\u00a0de\u00a0onycho<\/em>, pour\u00a0griffe<\/em>,\u00a0ongle<\/em>,\u00a0talon<\/em>\u00a0et de Themis. Themis, est la d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 de nombreuses fois depuis Hagen (1861), et Brauer a suivi la mode en 1868 quand il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce genre. Le nom de la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces.
Lorsque Brauer d\u00e9crit ce genre (2), il donne un caract\u00e8re distinctif :\u00a0\u00bbtarses sans dents, tibias avec de longues \u00e9pines\u00a0\u00bb. Ainsi, les tarses, ou griffes, sans dents, sont \u00e0 l\u2019origine de ce nom.
Testacea<\/strong>, du latin testaceous<\/em> qui signifie brun rouge<\/em> ou brun jaun\u00e2tre<\/em>. Laidlaw \u00e9crit \u00ab\u00a0Abdomen broad, slightly dilated at its base. Segments 4 to 8 strongly triangular in section. Testaceous black with dull yellow markings. – L’abdomen large, l\u00e9g\u00e8rement dilat\u00e9 \u00e0 la base. Les segments 4 \u00e0 8 de section triangulaire. Brun fonc\u00e9 avec des marques jaune terne<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Il m’a plut\u00f4t sembl\u00e9 noir avec des motifs jaunes, mais Laidlaw travaille sur une collection, et les sujets sont souvent d\u00e9t\u00e9rior\u00e9s, leurs couleurs d\u00e9grad\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son aire de distribution \u00e9tant immense, il n’est pas \u00e9tonnant qu’il soit affubl\u00e9 de diff\u00e9rents noms anglais, comme Riverhawk voire Riverhawker ou Stellate river hawk, pour l’apparence de ses taches abdominales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
