J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9, de loin, un jeune m\u00e2le Palpopleura lucia au B\u00e9nin et je n’ai pas eu plus de chance en \u00c9thiopie. Sur une rive du lac Awasa<\/a>, une zone mar\u00e9cageuse, j’ai pu observer plusieurs Palpopleura lucia (Libellulidae) sur quelques m\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s. Il m’a \u00e9t\u00e9 impossible de les approcher car ils d\u00e9collaient \u00e0 plus de 2 m\u00e8tres, d’autant que de jeunes enfants, trouvaient dr\u00f4le de les \u00e9clabousser, s’amusant de me voir gal\u00e9rer \u00e0 les approcher…
Il se distingue ais\u00e9ment de Palpopleura portia par la coloration noire de ses ailes moins encoch\u00e9es que celles de son cousin, le fait que la pruinosit\u00e9 respecte sont thorax, alors que P. portia devient enti\u00e8rement bleu, et que ses pt\u00e9rostigmas sont bicolores, ceux de P. portia sont enti\u00e8rement sombres.
Il mesure environ 28 mm et se rencontre du nord-est de l’Afrique du Sud jusqu’\u00e0 l’Ethiopie \u00e0 l’est et au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal \u00e0 l’ouest.

Palpopleura<\/span> ; autant dire que l’\u00e9tymologie est douteuse si la premi\u00e8re partie du nom de genre vient du verbe latin palpo qui signifie caresser, palper… [je n’ai pas d’autre option \u00e0 proposer]. Pleura en grec signifie c\u00f4t\u00e9<\/em> ou c\u00f4te<\/em> et pleura<\/em> pourrait \u00eatre un \u00e9quivalent du latin costa<\/em>, car Rambur, cr\u00e9ateur du genre insiste sur l’encoche caract\u00e9ristique de la nervure costale (la veine qui fait le bord d’aile).
Lucia :<\/span> comme presque tous les noms que Drury a donn\u00e9 aux libellules, Lucia est un nom f\u00e9minin\u00a0 de l’antiquit\u00e9 classique. Une Lucia tr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0connue\u00a0\u00bb est morte en martyre sous le r\u00e8gne de l’empereur romain Diocl\u00e9tien. Elle appartient \u00e0 de nombreux folklores, associ\u00e9e bien s\u00fbr \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
