Cette femelle Pseudagrion spernatum appartient au groupe A des Pseudagrion et je n’ai pas rencontr\u00e9 le m\u00e2le. Mais, pour une fois, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 facile \u00e0 identifier en raison du motif bleu particulier qu’elle porte sur les derniers segments, en particulier celui du S8 qui semble n’appartenir qu’\u00e0 elle. Le m\u00e2le pr\u00e9sente aussi ces marques distinctives, mais la pruinosit\u00e9 qui le recouvre \u00e0 la maturit\u00e9 les fait dispara\u00eetre.
Certains de ces femelles Pseudagrion du groupe A (toutes ?) exhibent des stylets plus ou moins remarquables, plus ou moins dress\u00e9s sur le pronotum: je ne sais pas combien en portent, la litt\u00e9rature est vraiment discr\u00e8te sur cet appendice pourtant \u00e9tonnant. Cet \u00e9peron est d\u00e9crit au moins pour P. guichardi (1) et pour P. spinithoracicum (2) qui lui a bien s\u00fbr donn\u00e9 son nom. Il est r\u00e9duit pour d’autres \u00e0 de simples excroissances
Et, j’ai eu eu la surprise de les d\u00e9couvrir sur le pronotum de la femelle ci-dessous, sous forme de ces 2 \u00e9pines claires (sans doute \u00e0 apex sombre) dress\u00e9es de part et d’autre du bord post\u00e9rieur, et orient\u00e9es vers la t\u00eate, de telle sorte qu’elles sont difficiles \u00e0 voir de profil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cela m’a remis en m\u00e9moire les spectaculaires \u00e9pines d’un Metaleptobasis foreli<\/a> observ\u00e9 au Panama en 2012. L’utilit\u00e9 pr\u00e9cise de ces \u00e9perons, s’ils en ont une, est inconnue, m\u00eame si on peut supposer un lien avec l’accouplement et la prise du m\u00e2le sur le pronotum.
Notre Pseudagrion spernatum mesure en moyenne 40 mm, et comme son nom anglais en t\u00e9moigne, Upland Sprite, il ne se rencontre qu’en altitude, ici \u00e0 1724 m d’altitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
