En \u00c9thiopie, j'ai rencontr\u00e9 de jeunes m\u00e2les matures, Nesciothemis farinosa, et comme en Afrique du Sud<\/a>, des femelles.
Ces m\u00e2les, jaunes comme les femelles, subissent un profond changement de coloration avec leur maturation\u202f; le thorax et les quatre premiers segments abdominaux se recouvrent de pruine bleut\u00e9e tandis que les derniers segments deviennent sombres au point que leurs noms anglais sont Eastern blacktail, Black-tailed Skimmer ou Common Blacktail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je n'ai pas rencontr\u00e9 de tels m\u00e2les et tous conservaient des taches jaunes sur les derniers segments. L'apex des ailes est souvent plus ou moins tach\u00e9, sans doute en fonction de l'\u00e2ge, mais aussi certainement avec des variations importantes selon la localisation g\u00e9ographique en Afrique.

Il mesure 40 \u00e0 46 mm et accepte une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d'habitats, surtout en eaux stagnantes, mais aussi dans les endroits calmes des rivi\u00e8res.
Sa distribution occupe tout l'est de l'Afrique (Eastern blacktail) limit\u00e9e \u00e0 l'ouest par une ligne de l'Angola \u00e0 l'\u00c9gypte.

Comme en Afrique du Sud, les femelles semblent avoir les apex des ailes plus marqu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a autrefois class\u00e9 cette esp\u00e8ce dans les Orthetrum, Orthetrum pollinosum (Karsch, 1899), et l'expansion ventrale du S8 de ces femelles n'y est sans doute pas \u00e9trang\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
