Orthetrum machadoi fait partie des 11 Orthetrum connus en \u00c9thiopie et pour identifier ces 2 femelles, j’ai essay\u00e9 de trouver des photos de ces esp\u00e8ces sur le Web. J’ai eu le plaisir (et un peu de chance \ud83d\ude42 ) de voir mon identification tr\u00e8s gentiment confirm\u00e9e par Klaas Douwe Dijkstra.
La bande ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale claire surlign\u00e9e par une ligne noire qui se termine en pointe vers l’arri\u00e8re (on les retrouve sur les m\u00e2les) et soulign\u00e9e par une autre bande noire non compl\u00e8te, des anneaux noirs \u00e0 l’union des segments 4 \u00e0 8, ainsi que les lignes noires \u00e9largies sur les segments 8 et 9 sont les \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui m’ont aid\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Encore une fois, c’est loin de l’eau (disons qu’en tout cas, je n’ai pas trouv\u00e9 d’eau dans les espaces que j’ai pu explorer…) que je les ai observ\u00e9es, dans le jardin d’un lodge, certainement une place de maturation \u00e0 l’abri des m\u00e2les, \u00e0 environ 1750 m d’altitude (Highland Skimmer pour son nom anglais).
Longfield dans sa description originale (1) le donnait pour une longueur totale de 40 mm et le signale comme tr\u00e8s ressemblant \u00e0 O. guineense \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent en \u00c9thiopie, mais que je n’ai pas rencontr\u00e9.
Il semble accepter une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d’habitats, sources, suintements, eaux stagnantes, ruisseaux… en milieux ouverts ou \u00e0 l’ombre de for\u00eats galeries (informations donn\u00e9es par le site ADDO<\/a> o\u00f9 on trouvera le m\u00e2le.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le rencontre en Angola, Botswana, Congo, \u00c9gypte, \u00c9thiopie, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibie, Afrique du Sud, Tanzanie, Ouganda, Zambie et Zimbabwe.
