Paragomphus genei (Gomphidae) est vraiment une heureuse surprise, je n’en avais jamais rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger en dehors des voyages odonatologiques et comme tous les Gomphidae, il tient une place sp\u00e9ciale au c\u0153ur des odonatophiles. Il se trouvait sur la berge, juste \u00e0 la limite de l’eau du lac Awasa, parmi les ordures accumul\u00e9es ici par le vent…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est assez petit, 37 \u00e0 50 mm, et accepte une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d’habitat, des mares temporaires, lacs et \u00e9tangs aux rivi\u00e8res. C’est d’ailleurs le Gomphidae le plus commun en Afrique (1).
Le genre Paragomphus ( Cowley, <\/strong>1934) est instantan\u00e9ment identifiable par ses appendices anaux m\u00e2les, ce qui manquait \u00e0 Selys qui a d\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 partir d’une femelle et l’a class\u00e9e dans le genre Gomphus (Gomphus genei<\/em>)(2). Voir ici ceux de Paragomphus capricornis<\/a> au Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans ce document (2) De S\u00e9lys explique le nom de l’esp\u00e8ce : \u00ab\u00a0Je l’ai d\u00e9di\u00e9 au savant professeur G\u00e9n\u00e9 (sic), si connu par ses excellents ouvrages sur les reptiles et les insectes de la Sardaigne et \u00e0 l’obligeance duquel je dois la communication qui m’a \u00e9t\u00e9 faite des Libellules du mus\u00e9e de Turin<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. L’esp\u00e8ce n’\u00e9tait alors connue que de Sicile (d\u00e9couverte par le sieur Ghiliani) et l’holotype \u00e9tait au mus\u00e9e de Turin. Cette description \u00e9tant sans \u00e9quivoque, je ne comprends pas pourquoi dans \u00ab\u00a0A Guide to Dragonflies and Damselflies of South Africa\u00a0\u00bb, Warwick et Mich\u00e8le Tarboton \u00e9crivent \u00ab\u00a0type from Egypt in 1871″…
Ne parlant pas italien, je n’ai pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 trouver la moindre information sur ce fameux professeur et je remercie d’avance les lecteurs qui m’aideront \u00e0 l’identifier\u202f! Merci \u00e0 Bertrand Piney qui a identifi\u00e9 ce professeur comme Guiseppe Gen\u00e9 (1800-1847), sans accent sur le premier \u00ab\u00a0e\u00a0\u00bb, zoologiste et entomologiste, professeur de zoologie et directeur du mus\u00e9e zoologique royal de Turin<\/em> qui a effectivement publi\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0De quibusdam insectis Sardiniae novis aut minus cognitis\u00a0\u00bb sous le nom de Josepho Gen\u00e9. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

M\u00eame s’il existe de grosses lacunes dans sa r\u00e9partition africaine, en particulier l’Afrique Saharienne, il est pr\u00e9sent dans tout le sud (ici en Namibie<\/a>) et le nord de l’Afrique, jusqu’en Isra\u00ebl au nord, mais aussi en Europe, Portugal, Espagne et Italie. Depuis ce mois de juin 2019, son autochtonie en Corse (3) a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9e sur une rivi\u00e8re du sud-ouest de l\u2019\u00eele.
