Paragomphus capricornis m\u00e2le, Vietnam, Cao Bang, 06\/06\/2018<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

On peut souvent compter sur les Gomphidae m\u00e2les pour montrer des appendices anaux spectaculaires, et ceux de Paragomphus capricornis ne font pas exception, cette forme en crochet \u00e9tant d’ailleurs une signature du genre (voir Paragomphus genei ici en Ethiopie<\/a>). Leur nom g\u00e9n\u00e9rique anglais est d’ailleurs Hooktail<\/em>, et le nom d’esp\u00e8ce Banded<\/em> pour le d\u00e9cor de son abdomen.
Ce Paragomphus a eu un certain succ\u00e8s car il est rest\u00e9 le temps que tout notre groupe le photographie longuement sous tous les angles, dans sa posture coutumi\u00e8re, l’abdomen plus haut que le thorax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure de l’ordre de 45 mm et se pla\u00eet sur les rivi\u00e8res de plaine ou de montagne de pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence avec un fond sableux, ce qui \u00e9tait bien le cas \u00e0 Cao Bang<\/a>. Il \u00e9tait pos\u00e9 sur la petite plage de sable que l’on aper\u00e7oit \u00e0 droite de l’image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le rencontre depuis Singapour et la Malaisie au sud, jusqu’aux provinces du sud de la Chine au nord (Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Hainan) et Hong Kong en passant par la Tha\u00eflande et le Vietnam, le Laos et le Myanmar. Curieusement, il n’est pas mentionn\u00e9 encore au Cambodge.
J’avais observ\u00e9 la femelle de l’esp\u00e8ce<\/a> en Malaisie.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Le genre Paragomphus<\/strong> a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par l’entomologiste britannique John Cowley en 1934, pour remplacer le genre Mesogomphus (F\u00f6rster, 1906) pr\u00e9occup\u00e9 par un genre de poissons fossiles. Avec le pr\u00e9fixe grec para<\/em> , \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9<\/em> le nom de genre choisi montre qu’ils sont tr\u00e8s \u00e9troitement li\u00e9s aux Gomphus (Leach, 1815). Gomphus<\/em>\u00a0vient d\u2019un mot grec qui signifie\u00a0cheville<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0boulon<\/em>, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme de l\u2019abdomen (de la plupart des esp\u00e8ces), qui ressemble \u00e0 une\u00a0cheville pour assembler les bateaux<\/em>.
Capricornis<\/strong> de caper<\/em> pour bouc<\/em> et de cornis<\/em> pour corne<\/em> pour d\u00e9crire les appendices anaux en corne de bouc<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
