Alors que je prospectais le rio Chacamax en compagnie de nombreux Argia translata<\/a>, cette Erythemis plebeja femelle est venue bri\u00e8vement me tenir compagnie. Il est difficile de la confondre avec une autre esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 la vue de son abdomen montrant une alternance de taches claires et sombres, et de son ovipositeur tr\u00e8s saillant.
D’autant que j’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 l’esp\u00e8ce au Panama<\/a>, au Br\u00e9sil<\/a> et que je le contacterai plus tard au P\u00e9rou<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les Erythemis plebeja se plaisent sur les mares, les lacs, les canaux fournis en v\u00e9g\u00e9tation \u00e9mergente, les rivi\u00e8res \u00e0 courant lent.
Il mesure environ 45 mm.
Son aire de distribution s\u2019\u00e9tend du Texas et de la Floride \u00e0 l\u2019Argentine.

Erythemis<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Hagen, 1861) (1) du grec\u00a0e\u030drythr\u00f3s<\/em>, rouge et de Themis. Il faut supposer que si Hagen a choisi Themis, \u2013 d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, c\u2019est \u00e0 la fois pour respecter la \u00ab\u00a0mode\u00a0\u00bb qui consistait \u00e0 donner un nom en rapport avec la mythologie, tr\u00e8s en vogue \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, et parce qu\u2019elle est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner et classer les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces. Quant au qualificatif \u00ab\u00a0rouge\u00a0\u00bb, il s\u2019explique par le fait que Hagen a inclus dans ce nouveau genre trois esp\u00e8ces dont l\u2019abdomen des m\u00e2les est rouge ou ferrugineux.
Plebeja<\/strong><\/em>, du latin\u00a0plebeius<\/em>, signifiant \u2013pl\u00e9b\u00e9ien, du peuple, de la pl\u00e8be<\/em>. Plusieurs explications sont propos\u00e9es pour expliquer cette \u00e9tymologie ; sa couleur sombre rappellerait les v\u00eatements du bas peuple\u2026 mais Burmeister n\u2019a-t-il pas seulement voulu signaler que l\u2019esp\u00e8ce est tr\u00e8s commune 1) ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
