\u00c0 vrai dire, cette photo de Urothemis edwarsii femelle est rest\u00e9e pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e sur ce site comme Urothemis assignata jusqu’au 18 d\u00e9cembre 2019. Pour ma d\u00e9fense j’avais vu les femelles des 2 esp\u00e8ces et le m\u00e2le U. assignata sur le m\u00eame lieu exactement, \u00e0 Turmi; mais m\u00e2le et femelle U. assignata le 28\/10\/18 \u00e0 16 heures 50 et la femelle isol\u00e9e qui s’est av\u00e9r\u00e9e U. edwardsii le lendemain \u00e0 7 heures 50, exactement au m\u00eame endroit. Tous de jeunes sujets.
Son identit\u00e9 a \u00e9volu\u00e9<\/em> \ud83d\ude42 parce que quelques jours auparavant je me suis plong\u00e9 dans l’identification diff\u00e9rentielle des femelles U. assignata\/edwardsii (Michel Yerokine, \u00e0 la R\u00e9union, ayant d\u00e9couvert une femelle Libellulidae, jamais vue sur cette \u00eele auparavant, que j’ai identifi\u00e9e tout d’abord comme Urothemis sp. puis comme U. edwardsii).
Si la lumi\u00e8re ne simplifie pas les choses on note que la face externe du f\u00e9mur post\u00e9rieur droit de cette femelle est tr\u00e8s nettement clair jusqu’en son milieu et cette diff\u00e9rence de couleur se prolonge m\u00eame plus bas sous la forme d’une ligne plus fine; les femelles U. assignata ont la face ext\u00e9rieure des f\u00e9murs noire, seuls, plus haut, coxa et trochanter sont clairs comme on peut le voir ici<\/a>. J’ai v\u00e9rifi\u00e9 cette diff\u00e9rence de couleur sur les photos que l’on trouve sur le Web et aupr\u00e8s de connaisseurs locaux de ces 2 esp\u00e8ces, et on peut la consid\u00e9rer maintenant comme un crit\u00e8re d\u2019identification diff\u00e9rentielle des femelles<\/em> de ces 2 esp\u00e8ces.

Ce n’est sans doute pas le bon angle, mais on note que la face dorsale est tr\u00e8s marqu\u00e9e de noir, m\u00eame les premiers segments, ce qui n’est pas le cas des femelles U. assignata comme on le voit ici<\/a>.
Balinski (1) en 1961, \u00e0 l’occasion de la description de l’esp\u00e8ce U. luciana a dessin\u00e9, en vue ventrale les lames vulvaires des 3 esp\u00e8ces d’Urothemis ; celle de U. edwardsii, bifide, est cens\u00e9e \u00eatre courte et ne pas d\u00e9passer le 9\u00b0 segment ce qui n’est pas respect\u00e9 ici. Il ne semble plus raisonnable de se fier \u00e0 ce crit\u00e8re pour identifier au moins les Libelulidae. D’ailleurs, Fredy Palacino Rodr\u00edguez, Carlos E. Sarmiento, Enrique Gonz\u00e1lez-Soriano (2) ont montr\u00e9 que la longueur de la lame vulvaire des Erythemis am\u00e9ricains \u00e9tait hautement variable et que ce n’\u00e9tait pas un crit\u00e8re fiable pour les identifier\u202f; ce n’est pas tellement une surprise, car c’est un organe mobile<\/a> que l’on constate tr\u00e8s distendu en fin de saison quand les femelles ont beaucoup pondu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La m\u00eame observation peut \u00eatre faite en Europe pour les ovipositeurs des femelles Lestes, leur longueur \u00e9tant utilis\u00e9e pour s\u00e9parer L. sponsa de L. dryas, mais les femelles L. sponsa ont parfois, pas souvent, c’est certain, des ovipositeurs aussi longs que ceux de leurs cousines…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Blue basker (car le m\u00e2le est bleu !) est pr\u00e9sent dans presque toute l’Afrique subsaharienne, du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal au Soudan et \u00e0 l’\u00c9thiopie, tr\u00e8s ponctuellement en Alg\u00e9rie et \u00e0 Oman, \u00e0 Madagascar et Mayotte et depuis d\u00e9cembre 2019 il est pr\u00e9sent \u00e0 la R\u00e9union o\u00f9 son statut reste \u00e0 pr\u00e9ciser, errant ou maintenant r\u00e9sident [en 2024 on peut le consid\u00e9rer comme r\u00e9sident en raison des nombreuses observations r\u00e9alis\u00e9es sur l’ile].
