Rhionaeschna multicolorI fait partie des huit Rhionaeschna pr\u00e9sents au Mexique dont quatre peuvent \u00eatre rencontr\u00e9s dans la province de Puebla.
J’ai eu du mal \u00e0 la photographier, car elle \u00e9tait pos\u00e9e \u00e0 4 ou 5 m\u00e8tres de haut dans un arbre et les branches qui la dissimulait m’interdisait tout autre angle…
Cette femelle se distingue des 3 autres (R. dugesi,psilus et jalapensis) par la forme des lignes thoraciques color\u00e9es et les dessins de son abdomen. Cette femelle a \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9e par Enrique Gonzales Soriano, sp\u00e9cialiste des odonates de l’universit\u00e9 de Mexico.
C’est une forme bleue, andromorphe, les formes h\u00e9t\u00e9romorphes pr\u00e9sentent des motifs jaunes sur l’abdomen.
Le m\u00e2le mesure 65 \u00e0 69 mm.
On rencontre l’esp\u00e8ce depuis le sud du Canada (Colombie-Britannique, Alberta) jusqu’au Mexique, \u00e0 travers la majeure partie des U.S.A., sur les pi\u00e8ces d’eau stagnantes ou \u00e0 courant tr\u00e8s mod\u00e9r\u00e9.

Rhionaeschna<\/strong> (1) (F\u00f6rster, 1920) du grec rhion<\/em>, pour promontoire,<\/em> et de Aeschna.
Aeschna est un cas particulier dans l\u2019\u00e9tymologie des noms d\u2019odonates. Il est ici \u00e9crit dans sa version corrig\u00e9e<\/em>, et on a, en Europe, l\u2019habitude de l\u2019\u00e9crire sans \u00ab c \u00bb, la version de Fabricius (1775) qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le nom de genre Aeshna.
On suppose, car il ne l\u2019a pas pr\u00e9cis\u00e9, que Fabricius a form\u00e9 ce nom depuis un mot grec signifiant d\u00e9figurer<\/em> ou ternir<\/em> (pourquoi, c\u2019est une autre \u00e9nigme ?) ; mais Fabricius est un puriste et on ne peut expliquer cette absence de \u00ab c  \u00bb que par une erreur de transcription ou une erreur typographique. L\u2019absence de ce \u00ab c \u00bb n\u2019est rest\u00e9e la norme que pour le genre Aeshna et tous les \u00ab compos\u00e9s \u00bb l\u2019ont int\u00e9gr\u00e9.
Dans sa description, F\u00f6rster, insiste sur la forme pro\u00e9minente du vertex :\u00a0\u00bbLa formation de la v\u00e9sicule pr\u00e8s des ocelles est tr\u00e8s remarquable. Elle est concave vers l’avant, de sorte qu’il forme une sorte de capuche, sous lequel est positionn\u00e9 l’ocelle moyen.
Multicolor<\/strong>, du latin multicolor<\/em>, signifiant\u2026 multicolore<\/em>. Comme il ne pr\u00e9sente pas plus de couleurs que d’autres esp\u00e8ces d\u00e9crites par Hagen dans la m\u00eame publication, cet adjectif se r\u00e9f\u00e8re vraisemblablement aux pattes. Il \u00e9crit en effet : \u00ab\u00a0Les pieds noirs, les f\u00e9murs roux en haut avec l’apex noir, f\u00e9murs ant\u00e9rieurs en dessous jaune-vert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
