M\u00eame s’il appara\u00eet d’un rose franchement exotique aux connaisseurs, Trithemis annulata m\u00e2le est souvent confondu avec les autres odonates rouges de France, nous n’en avons pas de rose. Il s’agit essentiellement des Sympetrum au premier rang desquels Sympetrum sanguineum, et de l’autre esp\u00e8ce qui nous est arriv\u00e9e d’Afrique il y a quelques dizaines d’ann\u00e9es, Crocothemis erythraea.
Mais bien s\u00fbr, quand on place ces 3 esp\u00e8ces l’une \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 des autres le doute n’est pas permis :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Comparaison<\/a>
Comparaison de 3 esp\u00e8ces parfois confondues: Crocothemis erythraea, Trithemis annulata et Sympetrum sanguineum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Hors la coloration, comparons C. erythraea et T. annulata pour souligner les diff\u00e9rences les plus faciles \u00e0 observer sur le terrain ou sur photo :
\u2014 Ils ont tous les 2 une large tache alaire basale (plus sombre et plus \u00e9tendue pour T. annulata), une marque noire sur les derniers segments, la nervation teint\u00e9e (de rouille pour C. erythraea, de rouge pour T. annulata) et un discret filet bleu \u00e0 la partie post\u00e9rieure de l\u2019\u0153il (clic sur image ci-dessus\u202f!).
\u2014 Mais<\/em> les pattes de C. erythraea sont rouges, celle de T. annulata noires.
\u2014 Le front de C. erythraea est rouge, celui de T. annulata porte une marque violet tr\u00e8s sombre m\u00e9tallis\u00e9.
\u2014 L’abdomen de C. erythraea aplati dorso-ventralement est large, celui de T. annulata est fin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le front est sombre (et poilu!), les pattes sont noires, la nervation est rouge.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Au tour de T. annulata et S. sanguineum:
\u2014 Ils ont tous les deux des marques sombres sur les derniers segments et tous les deux des pattes noires.
\u2014 Mais S. sanguineum n’a que rarement une tache alaire basale notable et sans commune mesure avec celle \u00e0 T. annulata, pas de tache sur le front qui est rouge.
\u2014 La nervation de S. sanguineum est sombre, celle de T. annulata rouge
\u2014 L’abdomen de T. annulata s’affine r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement vers son extr\u00e9mit\u00e9, celui de S. sanguineum est dilat\u00e9 entre les segments 6 et 8.

Ils ont tous les trois pour point commun de pouvoir s’observer sur les m\u00eames pi\u00e8ces d’eau…

Il se comporte comme de nombreux Libellulidae appr\u00e9ciant les rameaux, les tiges, les herbes un peu isol\u00e9es dress\u00e9es au bord de l’eau sur lesquels il se perche afin de surveiller son territoire. Il s’en \u00e9chappe pour chasser et poursuivre un intrus ou capturer une proie, si c’est l’heure du repas. Si personne ne le d\u00e9range, il revient se poser au m\u00eame endroit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il adopte souvent la posture que l’on observe ci-dessus, les ailes plus basses que le thorax, ce qui lui vaut son nom vernaculaire anglo-saxon de Violet dropwing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
