J’ai rencontr\u00e9 Sympetrum corruptum lors d’un arr\u00eat dans une zone semi-d\u00e9sertique<\/a> sur la grande route Tehuacan-Oaxaca j’ai franchi les barri\u00e8res de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 pour me promener dans la nature, assez peu accueillante d’ailleurs. Sans doute issue d’une fuite d’une canalisation parall\u00e8le \u00e0 la route, j’ai trouv\u00e9 une petite partie humide avec 2 zones o\u00f9 l’eau stagnait sur quelques m\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s.
Cela suffisait au bonheur de 2 Sympetrum corruptum ; au mien aussi d’ailleurs \ud83d\ude42 puisque c’\u00e9tait la premi\u00e8re fois que je rencontrais cette esp\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il n’existe que 3 Sympetrum au Mexique. Sympetrum illotum ne montre pas de taches noires sur les derniers segments abdominaux S8 et S9. Sympetrum signiferum lui porte souvent une petite tache sur S9 (pas sur S8), de fortes taches lat\u00e9rales sur les segments 8 \u00e0 9, et pr\u00e9sente surtout une tache alaire basale sombre aux ailes post\u00e9rieures qui lui font porter le nom am\u00e9ricain de Spot-winged Meadowhawk. Peu de risques de confusion en somme.
Il mesure 33 \u00e0 43 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J’ai eu beaucoup de mal \u00e0 les approcher (pas une photo totalement nette), tant par la configuration du lieu que par leur timidit\u00e9\u202f; lorsqu’il y a peu de sujets (il n’y avait que ces deux odonates sur la zone) on remarque souvent qu’ils sont particuli\u00e8rement craintifs.
Il appr\u00e9cie les mares et les eaux mod\u00e9r\u00e9ment courantes, en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral \u00e0 fond sablonneux ou de galets, mais il est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une esp\u00e8ce capable d’accepter une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de biotopes.
On le rencontre depuis le sud du Canada jusqu’au Belize et Honduras. IUCN Red List<\/a>.

En am\u00e9ricain, il prend le nom de Variegated Meadowhawk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Sympetrum<\/strong>, du grec\u00a0Sym-pi\u00e9zein<\/em>, \u00ab\u00a0compress\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb et\u00a0etron<\/em>, \u00ab\u00a0abdomen\u00a0\u00bb. Newmann (1833) qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre croyait, de fa\u00e7on erron\u00e9e, que la compression de l’abdomen \u2019\u00e9tait une caract\u00e9ristique du genre, ce qui est \u00e9tonnant, car ce n\u2019\u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 pas vrai pour toutes les esp\u00e8ces connues \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque (mais l’information ne circulait pas alors facilement).
Corruptum<\/strong> (1), du latin corruptus qui signifie g\u00e2t\u00e9, corrompu. Fliedner et Enderby se contentent \u00e0 ce propos d’indiquer \u00ab\u00a0Allusion inconnue\u00a0\u00bb. Pour moi qui ne le connais pas puisque c’\u00e9tait la premi\u00e8re fois que je le voyais, je trouve que ces adjectifs pourraient tr\u00e8s bien s’appliquer \u00e0 son apparence, en particulier celle de son abdomen, qui semble tach\u00e9, dont la coloration semble g\u00e2t\u00e9e par on ne sait quel ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne, voir la premi\u00e8re photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
