Lestes pallidus m\u00e2le, Namibie, Rundu, mare pr\u00e8s de l’Okavango, 10\/02\/2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Lestes pallidus fait partie des 4 Lestes en Namibie, nous avons rencontr\u00e9 plusieurs fois celui-ci, une seule fois Lestes dissimulans.
Comme la plupart des Lestes, il aime les eaux dormantes, voire les parties tr\u00e8s lentes des rivi\u00e8res, les bras morts\u202f; nous l’avons observ\u00e9 sur des mares, parfois reliquats de d\u00e9bordements de l’Okavango ou d’autres rivi\u00e8res ass\u00e9ch\u00e9es.
Il mesure environ 37 \u00e0 44 mm pour une envergure de 42 \u00e0 46 mm.

Nous n’avons pas eu de mal \u00e0 l’identifier avec son thorax p\u00e2le finement ray\u00e9 de noir. Lestes dissimulans, je n’ai pas vu de m\u00e2le, montre un thorax ponctu\u00e9 de marques sombres. Nous n’avons pas eu besoin de recourir \u00e0 l’examen des appendices anaux, mais tout \u00e9tait pr\u00eat, au cas o\u00f9… \ud83d\ude42
\u00c0 droite ci-dessous un jeune m\u00e2le, \u00e0 peine couvert de pruine pour les derniers segments et dont le thorax est rest\u00e9 p\u00e2le, Kalambesa le 17\/02\/2020.
C’est une esp\u00e8ce connue pour \u00eatre variable en coloration pour le thorax qui peut \u00eatre verd\u00e2tre, bleu\u00e2tre avec la pruinosit\u00e9, noir\u00e2tre dans les cas de m\u00e9lanisme ou m\u00eame brun sable en particulier dans les r\u00e9gions arides du pays. C’est certainement cette forme qui pr\u00e9domine en Namibie (mais pas dans la bande de Caprivi, surtout \u00e0 la saison des pluies) et en Afrique du Sud, et lui a valu le nom anglais de Pale ou Pallid Spreadwing. Elle explique bien s\u00fbr le nom scientifique de l’esp\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles matures semblent avoir la m\u00eame diversit\u00e9 de coloration\u202f; certaines ont les yeux verts, mais le thorax ne porte pas de lignes sombres remarquables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles mesurent entre 36 et 42 mm, \u00e0 peine moins que les m\u00e2les, pour une envergure de 42 \u00e0 48 mm.

Sa r\u00e9partition est assez \u00e9tonnante, formant une bande horizontale \u00e0 travers l’Afrique sub-saharienne depuis le sud de la Mauritanie et le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, sans atteindre les nations qui au sud jouxtent l’Oc\u00e9an, jusqu’au Soudan et \u00e0 l’\u00c9thiopie, puis une bande verticale (le long de l’Oc\u00e9an Indien) respectant l’Afrique centrale jusqu’au nord de l’Afrique du Sud, puis remontent \u00e0 travers la Namibie jusqu’en Angola. Difficile \u00e0 suivre ? Une carte de l’IUCN<\/a> est certainement plus claire \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n
