J’avais rencontr\u00e9 Ictinogomphus ferox (Gomphidae) tr\u00e8s bri\u00e8vement en Afrique du Sud, mais durant ce s\u00e9jour, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9sent. Il est souvent patient, peu craintif et spectaculaire par sa taille qui atteint 75 \u00e0 90 mm et ses expansions foliac\u00e9es sur le segment 8.
Ci-dessous \u00e0 gauche le 14\/02\/2020 \u00e0 Bum Hill dans le parc national de Bwabwata, il faut remarquer les tr\u00e8s longues auricules port\u00e9es par le 2\u00b0 segment abdominal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il aime se percher sur les rameaux qui surplombent l’eau, pr\u00e8s des berges, pour surveiller son territoire o\u00f9 il fait r\u00e9gner sa loi. On le trouve sur le bord des rivi\u00e8res, mais aussi des mares et des lacs.
Il ne d\u00e9daigne pas \u00e0 l’occasion de faire l’ob\u00e9lisque lorsque la temp\u00e9rature est \u00e9lev\u00e9e\u00a0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Common Tigertail appartient \u00e0 l’Afrique tropicale, \u00e0 l’ouest depuis le Sierra L\u00e9one et Liberia jusqu’\u00e0 l’\u00c9thiopie et la Somalie \u00e0 l’est. De l\u00e0, on le trouve en Afrique de l’Est jusqu’au nord-est de l’Afrique du Sud, et plus \u00e0 l’ouest dans la moiti\u00e9 sud de l’Angola, en Namibie, et la moiti\u00e9 nord du Botswana.

Comme on le voit ci-dessus, les femelles portent \u00e9galement des expansions foliac\u00e9es, sans doute un peu moins importantes que celles des m\u00e2les, et se livrent \u00e0 la m\u00eame gymnastique que ceux-ci pour adapter leur temp\u00e9rature interne\u00a0: en cas de forte chaleur, la position dite de \u00ab\u00a0l’ob\u00e9lisque\u00a0\u00bb permettrait de limiter la surface expos\u00e9e aux rayons directs du soleil. Lors de ces photos, la temp\u00e9rature d\u00e9passait les 30\u00b0C \u00e0 l’ombre.
J’ai pu longuement observer et photographier une femelle perch\u00e9e sur les branches basses d’un arbre \u00e0 quelques dizaines de m\u00e8tres du Zamb\u00e8ze. Sur l’\u00e9cran de l’ordinateur, je me suis rendu compte que ce que j’avais pris pour des f\u00e8ces \u00e9taient en fait une partie de sa ponte dans laquelle on individualise tr\u00e8s bien quelques \u0153ufs accroch\u00e9s au bout de sa lame vulvaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
