Chalcostephia flavifrons m\u00e2le, Namibie, Kalambesa sur le Zamb\u00e8ze, 15\/02\/2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Chalcostephia flavifrons (Libellulidae) est la seule esp\u00e8ce de son genre. Suhling & Martens donnent l’\u00e9tymologie de son nom scientifique dans Dragonflies and Damselflies of Namibia. Du grec Chalkos<\/em> pour \u00ab\u00a0cuivre, bronze\u00a0\u00bb, de stephos<\/em> pour \u00ab\u00a0couronne\u00a0\u00bb et le suffixe ius<\/em> pour \u00ab\u00a0porteur de…\u00a0\u00bb. La partie sup\u00e9rieure de son clypeus est en effet vert cuivr\u00e9, comme s’il portait une couronne.
Quand au nom d’esp\u00e8ce il signifie \u00ab\u00a0front jaune\u00a0\u00bb mais c’est presque toute sa face qui est jaune.

Nous ne l’avons rencontr\u00e9e qu’une fois, dans une sorte de minuscule crique sur le Zamb\u00e8ze, un peu \u00e0 l’ombre des arbres de la rive. Il pr\u00e9sente certainement un comportement original car son nom anglais est simplement \u00ab\u00a0Inspector\u00a0\u00bb!
Il mesure 33 \u00e0 35 mm habite en principe les mares et marais mais comme on le voit il accepte \u00e9galement les parties presque sans courant des grandes rivi\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal \u00e0 l’Ethiopie au nord jusqu’\u00e0 l’extr\u00eame est de l’Afrique du Sud \u00e0 travers le nord et l’est de l’Angola et l’extr\u00eame nord du Botswana. En Namibie il n’est pr\u00e9sent que dans la bande de Caprivi.
