J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Hemistigma albipunctum (Libellulidae) en Afrique du Sud<\/a> mais j’ai trouv\u00e9 ici des sujets \u00e0 des stades de maturation que je n’avais pas rencontr\u00e9 plus au Sud, et en octobre.
Je n’avais vu que des m\u00e2les \u00e2g\u00e9s compl\u00e8tement pruineux, certainement moins spectaculaires que celui ci-dessus. Il est facile \u00e0 identifier avec ses pt\u00e9rostigmas bicolores et quand il est immature cette large bande jaune sur la face sup\u00e9rieure du thorax; il ne pourrait \u00eatre confondu qu’avec Palpopleura deceptor pour les pt\u00e9rostigmas bicolores mais ce dernier pr\u00e9sente une bande sombre \u00e0 la base de l’aile ant\u00e9rieure au niveau de la subcostale. Notons que m\u00e2le et femelle Hemistigma albipunctum portent de fa\u00e7on variable une bande sombre \u00e9galement dans l’espace sous costale, mais que celle-ci, quand elle est pr\u00e9sente, n’atteint jamais la base de l’aile, ce qu’on voit bien ci-dessous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La photo ci-dessus montre un m\u00e2le plus avanc\u00e9 et la bande claire thoracique sup\u00e9rieure commence \u00e0 dispara\u00eetre sous la pruinosit\u00e9.
On voit parfaitement bien sur cette photo le front m\u00e9tallis\u00e9 et le point blanc qu’il porte lat\u00e9ralement. Sur ce point (!) je me permets de ne pas \u00eatre en accord avec Suhling et Martens dans Dragonflies and Damselflies of Namibia; pour moi ce point est la raison pour laquelle Rambur a appel\u00e9 cette esp\u00e8ce (Libellula) albipunctum<\/em>.
Il \u00e9crit dans Histoire Naturelle des Insectes :\u00a0\u00bbT\u00eate avec la face blanche, avec le front d’un bleu m\u00e9tallique verd\u00e2tre et un point blanc de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9 chez le m\u00e2le\u00a0\u00bb.
Suhling et Martens donne l’\u00e9tymologie albus\/blanc et punctum\/point mais qui se r\u00e9f\u00e9rerait \u00e0 la partie blanche du pt\u00e9rostigma…
Ce ne devait pas \u00eatre non plus l’opinion de Kirby quand il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Hemistigma (dont l’esp\u00e8ce type est albipunctum<\/em>) sinon pourquoi aurait-il \u00e0 nouveau rappel\u00e9 que les pt\u00e9rostigmas sont color\u00e9s diff\u00e9remment sur chaque moiti\u00e9 (Hemi – pt\u00e9rostigma).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son nom local est African Pied-spot, ce qu’on peut traduire par l’Africain aux taches pies<\/em> (noir et blanc), qui souligne ses pt\u00e9rostigmas bicolores.
Ci-dessus on voit bien la zone sombre de l’espace sous costal sur l’aile ant\u00e9rieure gauche alors qu’elle est absente de l’aile ant\u00e9rieure droite.
Tr\u00e8s bizarrement les femelles que j’ai photographi\u00e9es n’ont pas de taches alaires apicales alors que c’est un crit\u00e8re d’identification; il n’est jamais mentionn\u00e9 dans aucun des 5 livres que je poss\u00e8de que ces femelles peuvent en \u00eatre d\u00e9pourvues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles ne semblent pourtant pas si jeune car la coloration abdominale et thoracique semble bien affirm\u00e9e, comme celle de l’espace sous-costal… sauf sur la femelle ci-dessous qui en semble d\u00e9pourvue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour exemple voici une jeune femelle<\/a>, pas encore bien color\u00e9e, prise en Afrique du Sud dont on voit d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien les taches alaires apicales.
M\u00eame cette femelle androchrome, couverte de pruine bleut\u00e9e comme un m\u00e2le, en est d\u00e9pourvue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une esp\u00e8ce tr\u00e8s variable en taille, de 27 \u00e0 38 mm avec une envergure de 43 \u00e0 63 mm, qui appr\u00e9cie les marais, mais comme souvent en Namibie on est pr\u00e8s d’une rivi\u00e8re et les mares sont temporaires form\u00e9es par les crues.
On le rencontre dans toute l’Afrique tropical, du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal \u00e0 l’Ethiopie au nord jusqu’\u00e0 l’Afrique du Sud.
