Cette Orthetrum internum femelle est une surprise, car si j’avais vu en prenant la photo que c’\u00e9tait une femelle Orthetrum\u00a0en raison des expansions ventrales du S8, j’ignorais que c’\u00e9tait une nouvelle esp\u00e8ce pour moi, et une esp\u00e8ce que nous n’avions pas enregistr\u00e9e dans la check-list quotidienne sur place. C’est bien s\u00fbr notre seul contact avec cette esp\u00e8ce, \u00e0 Pia Oac, \u00e0 25 km de la fronti\u00e8re chinoise, le 5 juin 2018, \u00e0 une altitude de 1345 m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il a d’abord \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une sous-esp\u00e8ce de Orthetrum japonicum lorsqu’il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit en 1894, mais McLachlan en a fait une esp\u00e8ce valide dans une autre publication en 1896 (1), en raison du fait, entre autres, que le triangle de son aile post\u00e9rieure est toujours travers\u00e9 par une nervure et que ce triangle est toujours libre pour O. japonicum.
C’est un d\u00e9tail qu’on voit tr\u00e8s bien sur ma photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M\u00eame s’il ne trouve pas de diff\u00e9rence au niveau des appendices anaux des m\u00e2les.
Selon McLachlan, il ne porte jamais de pruinosit\u00e9 sur la face dorsale du thorax, ce qui semble incertain sur les photos que l’on trouve de lui au Japon, par exemple.
Mais d’autres d\u00e9tails figurant dans la description de 1894 (2) l’en s\u00e9parent ; le lobe central du labium est compl\u00e8tement noir\u00e2tre et les lobes lat\u00e9raux portent une forte marge color\u00e9e de la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on. Sur le thorax, la bande sombre s\u00e9parant les deux espaces clairs est plus large sans aucune trace de jaune.

L’abdomen de cette femelle mesure 26 \u00e0 29 mm et sa taille totale doit approcher les 45 mm.

Sa distribution est sans doute ind\u00e9termin\u00e9e et n’appara\u00eet pas sur la IUCN Red List<\/a>. J’ai pourtant v\u00e9rifi\u00e9 la validit\u00e9 de l’esp\u00e8ce sur Odonata Central<\/a>, la liste de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence mondiale.
Sur iNaturalist<\/a> (cliquer sur le symbole pour agrandir la carte), sa distribution suit l’arc Himalayen depuis le Cachemire jusqu’au Tibet, s’\u00e9tend un peu au sud vers l’extr\u00eame nord-est de l’Inde, traverse la moiti\u00e9 sud de la Chine pour atteindre Ta\u00efwan et la Cor\u00e9e du Sud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie
Orthetrum\u00a0<\/strong>(3) vient de deux mots grecs,\u00a0orthos<\/em>\u00a0signifiant\u00a0droit<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0etron<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0pour\u00a0abdomen<\/em>, ceci pour signifier que les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019abdomen sont parall\u00e8les. Ce nom de genre (neutre) cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Newman en 1833 a perdu sa pertinence avec la d\u00e9couverte de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces, mais le nom est rest\u00e9.
Internum<\/strong>, du latin internus, <\/em>signifiant \u00e0 l’int\u00e9rieur de<\/em> pour souligner sa diff\u00e9rence avec O. japonicum, car il pr\u00e9sente une nervure transverse \u00e0 ‘int\u00e9rieur du triangle<\/em> de l’aile post\u00e9rieure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
