Nous n’avons eu qu’une unique rencontre avec Gomphidia quarrei (Gomphidae), juste au bord de l’eau pr\u00e8s de rapides du Zamb\u00e8ze, dans une zone d\u00e9gag\u00e9e mais non loin de la for\u00eat rivulaire. Il s’est montr\u00e9 patient, se contentant de changer de support (arbustes bas) \u00e0 plusieurs reprises quand la pression des observateurs \u00e9tait trop forte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est tr\u00e8s voisin des Diastatomma<\/em> et a \u00e9t\u00e9 originellement class\u00e9 dans ce genre par Schouteden. Mais ses aventures ne sont pas finies, car le genre Gomphidia<\/em> devrait \u00eatre scind\u00e9 pour en s\u00e9parer les 3 esp\u00e8ces africaines sous le nom de genre de Africogomphidia<\/em>. Il est le seul repr\u00e9sentant du genre en Namibie et m\u00eame dans le sud de l’Afrique, mais on peut le s\u00e9parer des 2 autres esp\u00e8ces africaines, tr\u00e8s ressemblantes, par ses appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs rectilignes sur une vue dorsale. Ceci lui vaut le nom vernaculaire de Southern Fingertail, car lesdits appendices seraient en forme de doigt (!).
Son nom d’esp\u00e8ce rend hommage au botaniste belge Pierre Quarr\u00e9 qui a captur\u00e9 le sp\u00e9cimen original au Congo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On note comme les cerques sont courts, \u00e0 peine visibles.
Il mesure 61 mm, et par sa taille et son habitus, \u00e0 distance, peut \u00eatre confondu avec Ictinogomphus ferox<\/a> (Common Fingertail) mais ce dernier pr\u00e9sente de spectaculaires foliations sur les derniers segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un de mes plaisirs quand les sujets sont patients, est de faire des photos de leurs yeux<\/a>, car je ne me lasse pas de leur complexit\u00e9, de leurs couleurs et du jeu de leurs pseudo-pupilles qui semblent nous observer.
Son territoire occupe la moiti\u00e9 sud de l’Afrique.
