Orthetrum abbotti m\u00e2le, Waterberg Plateau National Park, 09\/02\/2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Bien que l'aire de distribution d'Orthetrum abbotti (Libellulidae) s'\u00e9tende \u00e0 toute l'Afrique sub-saharienne jusqu'au sud de l'Afrique du Sud, il est localis\u00e9 \u00e0 quelques places en Namibie, dont celle-ci bien connue, au pied du plateau de Waterberg.
Il s'agit d'un ruisseau vraiment faible, envahi de v\u00e9g\u00e9tation, traversant plus ou moins une route pav\u00e9e du resort. Nous l'avons trouv\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois sur les bords de la route, mais aussi enfoui dans la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation.

Ci-dessus 2 m\u00e2les, l'un totalement pruineux l'autre montrant encore la teinte jaune des couleurs de sa jeunesse, qui ne seront parfois pas compl\u00e8tement recouvertes de pruinosit\u00e9 bleue, comme c'est presque toujours le cas pour les Orthetrum.
Ci-dessous ce m\u00e2le est immature et porte encore l'habit des femelles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C'est le plus petit des Orthetrum du sud de l'Afrique avec 35 mm en moyenne.
Si on le rencontre en Namibie sur des ruisseaux m\u00eame tr\u00e8s d\u00e9grad\u00e9s, en Afrique du Sud, il est mentionn\u00e9 sur les habitats mar\u00e9cageux avec v\u00e9g\u00e9tation \u00e9mergente.
On retrouve sur la femelle le pattern abdominal caract\u00e9ristique avec la ligne noire m\u00e9diane s\u00e9parant des paires de points dans la partie distale des segments.
On note \u00e9galement la taille importante des pt\u00e9rostigmas sur ces ailes minuscules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le nom d'esp\u00e8ce est un hommage \u00e0 William Louis Abbott qui a captur\u00e9 l'esp\u00e8ce, d\u00e9crite par Calvert, en Tanzanie (Kilimandjaro).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
