Pseudagrion deningi fait partie des Pseudagrion facile \u00e0 identifier avec ses yeux noirs en haut et verts en bas, la partie sup\u00e9rieure de son thorax compl\u00e8tement noire (ce qui lui vaut son nom anglais de Dark Sprite), le bas de son thorax et les derniers segments bleu azur. Il n’a pas de taches postoculaires ce qui permet de le diff\u00e9rencier facilement de Pseudagrion sudanicum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pinhey dans sa description originale de l’esp\u00e8ce lui donne un abdomen de 26 mm, ce qui donne une taille totale de 32 mm. Le rapport \u00e0 la taille d’une main est toujours int\u00e9ressant pour constater comme ils sont petits\u202f!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pinhey insiste sur ses appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs inhabituellement robustes et massifs (\u00ab\u00a0extraordinarily robust\u00a0\u00bb) au point que sur une vue dorsale, ils masquent les inf\u00e9rieurs, que l’on voit cependant tr\u00e8s bien sur le profil inf\u00e9rieur de ce sujet mort sans doute tout r\u00e9cemment, et trouv\u00e9 flottant sur l’eau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous ne l’avons rencontr\u00e9 que sur l’Okavango, soit v\u00e9ritablement au bord de la rivi\u00e8re comme \u00e0 Rundu, soit dans les marais de l’Okavango dans le parc national de Bwabwata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles ont la bonne id\u00e9e de ressembler aux m\u00e2les m\u00eame si leur face est moins color\u00e9e. Elles semblent porter un motif caract\u00e9ristique sur les derniers segments. Celle ci-dessous que j’ai poursuivie de place en place porte sous son thorax un hydracarien parasite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution actuelle le limite au nord de la Zambie et au bassin du Congo, et sautant curieusement au sud, aux rivi\u00e8res Okavango et Kwando en Namibie et au Botswana.

Pseudagrion (1) du grec ancien,\u00a0pseudo<\/em>\u00a0\u2013faux, erron\u00e9,<\/em>\u00a0et de\u00a0agrion<\/em>, ceci, comme l\u2019\u00e9crit Selys, pour t\u00e9moigner de la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 s\u00e9parer ce genre des Agrion ; \u00ab\u00a0les Pseudagrions semblent tr\u00e8s voisins des vrais Agrions\u00a0\u00bb. Agrion, du grec\u00a0Agrios<\/em>\u2013\u00a0sauvage<\/em>, vivant dans les champs.
Deningi (2) est un hommage \u00e0 Richard Cranmer Dening qui a captur\u00e9 l’esp\u00e8ce sur le lac Chali, au nord de la Zambie, en octobre 1959.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
