Il est \u00e9tonnant de constater que ces m\u00e2les (deux en fait) Caliphaea confusa (Euphaeidae) positionnent leurs derniers segments abdominaux en flexion, ce qui semble \u00eatre une constante du genre. Ce genre contient des esp\u00e8ces tr\u00e8s discr\u00e8tes, rares, pouvant \u00eatre localement abondantes (ce qui n’est pas le cas ici), cantonn\u00e9es aux zones \u00e0 l’ombre des ruisseaux de montagne.

C’est en fait une esp\u00e8ce rare ; cette page est mise \u00e0 jour en 2025 et elle n’a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 observ\u00e9e depuis notre s\u00e9jour en 2018. Malgr\u00e9 cette raret\u00e9, elle poss\u00e8de un nom vernaculaire anglais en Inde ; Himalayan Bronzeback<\/a><\/em>.
Ce qui est plaisant<\/em> avec ces noms vernaculaires<\/em> est qu’il n’y a pas d’instance officielle validatrice dans de nombreux pays ; aussi cet Himalayan Bronzeback<\/em> est aussi un serpent arboricole, Dendrelaphis biloreatus<\/a><\/em> !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y a 2 Caliphaea au Vietnam, et celui-ci a \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9 le 12 juin 2018 \u00e0 Sapa<\/a>, 1870 m d’altitude, je ne sais trop comment, il a sans doute \u00e9t\u00e9 pris en main en mon absence, car les deux esp\u00e8ces seraient indiscernables sans examen des cerco\u00efdes, appendices anaux inf\u00e9rieurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je pense qu’il mesure 40 \u00e0 45 mm. Sa distribution est encore incertaine, et s’\u00e9tendrait de l’est de l’Inde au sud-ouest de la Chine et au nord du Vietnam.

Pr\u00e8s du premier m\u00e2le ci-dessus, nous avons rencontr\u00e9 cette seule femelle. Seule la pr\u00e9sence du m\u00e2le et les motifs thoraciques similaires permettent son identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Hagen cr\u00e9e le genre Caliphaea pour cette esp\u00e8ce.
Caliphaea<\/strong>, du grec k\u00e1llos<\/em> qui signifie beau<\/em> et de phaios<\/em> qui signifie sombre<\/em>. Hagen \u00e9crit (\u00e0 propos de cette unique esp\u00e8ce de ce nouveau genre): \u00ab\u00a0Corps bronz\u00e9 obscur\u00a0\u00bb.
Confusa<\/strong> du latin confusus<\/em>, pour anarchique<\/em>, confus<\/em> fait certainement r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la difficult\u00e9 de placer le genre par rapport \u00e0 ceux existants. Hagen \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0Ce grand genre est tellement interm\u00e9diaire entre la l\u00e9gion des Calopteryx et celle des Euph\u00e6a, qu’il est difficile de le placer avec certitude<\/em> \u00ab\u00a0.
Il est surprenant que l’\u00e9tymologie du nom de genre renvoie \u00e0 l’esp\u00e8ce et que celle de l’esp\u00e8ce renvoie au genre. Mais, c’est la premi\u00e8re esp\u00e8ce de ce genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
