Car, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque de Kirby qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre en 1890, les sp\u00e9cimens provenaient principalement des r\u00e9gions montagneuses du nord de l\u2019Inde (Himalaya),\u00a0<em>l\u00e0 o\u00f9 le Gange prend sa source<\/em>. Ce qui est plus po\u00e9tique que g\u00e9ographiquement exact, puisque le sp\u00e9cimen de la\u00a0<em>collection Selys<\/em>\u00a0[ P. montana, esp\u00e8ce type du genre] provient sans doute de Darjeeling, nettement plus \u00e0 l\u2019ouest. Le sp\u00e9cimen d\u00e9crit par Navas rompt  le lien avec les sources du Gange, puisqu'il provient de la province chinoise du Guangdong.<br><strong>Vetusta<\/strong>, du latin vetustus qui signifie tr\u00e8s ancien, archa\u00efque. Avant de d\u00e9crire l'esp\u00e8ce nouvelle, Ris r\u00e9dige un assez long commentaire \u00e0 propos des Philoganga dans lequel il \u00e9crit :\" <em>Schon ihr groteskes Aussehen lenkt zwingend die Gedanken auf versunkene Welten, und der Adorbau ist von einer unter den lebenden Odonaten kaum noch \u00fcbertroffenen Primitivit\u00e4t<\/em>.\".
