2 br\u00e8ves rencontres avec Trithemis hecate, un tr\u00e8s \u00e9l\u00e9gant Libellulidae d’environ 40 mm. Son abdomen est tr\u00e8s fin, sombre, noir, avec parfois quelques tr\u00e8s fines raies jaunes, le thorax est bleu, les yeux rouges tr\u00e8s sombres avec la base bleut\u00e9e, le front porte une tache bleue m\u00e9tallis\u00e9e. Les pt\u00e9rostigmas sont jaune clair.

C’est un des 5 Trithemis namibiens bleus et on peut, pour moi, le confondre avec Trithemis donaldsoni ou Trithemis aconita. Le premier est nettement plus clair et massif, mais le second est tr\u00e8s ressemblant. Cependant, Trithemis aconita montre de nettes lignes jaunes sur l’abdomen qui ne disparaissent pas compl\u00e8tement quand il vieillit, ses pt\u00e9rostigmas sont brun fonc\u00e9, il porte 10 \u00e0 12 1\/2 ant\u00e9nodales contre 8 1\/2 \u00e0 9 1\/2 pour Trithemis hecate (voir la derni\u00e8re photo de la page sur laquelle on voit bien ces veines transverses ant\u00e9nodales<\/a>).
\u00c9videmment l’id\u00e9al est de comparer les genitalia<\/a>, et ici l’hame\u00e7on <\/a>est trapu, alors qu’il est long pour T. aconita ou encore plus long pour T. donaldsoni :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est classique de trouver les femelles dans les arbres, parfois loin de l’eau. Je n’\u00e9tais pas certain de leur identification, mais elles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 confirm\u00e9es par K.-D. Dijkstra. Le pattern thoracique, pas toujours facile \u00e0 distinguer en raison de leur position ailes tombantes (Dropwing), associ\u00e9 \u00e0 la finesse de l’abdomen, semble caract\u00e9ristique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si en Afrique du Sud l’esp\u00e8ce appr\u00e9cie les mares et les lacs aux rives plant\u00e9es de roseaux, en Namibie, elle fr\u00e9quente les bras morts de rivi\u00e8res (qui forment des mares !) ou les sections mar\u00e9cageuses de ces rivi\u00e8res, comme le Zamb\u00e8ze ou l’Okavango.
Noter les pt\u00e9rostigmas clairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une esp\u00e8ce r\u00e9pandue dans l’est et le sud de l’Afrique, qui atteint cependant le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal \u00e0 travers le Tchad, le Nigeria et le sud du Mali. De fa\u00e7on \u00e9tonnante, l’esp\u00e8ce est assez largement r\u00e9pandue jusqu’\u00e0 l’Atlantique dans le nord de la Namibie.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span> (Fliedner, 2021)
Trithemis<\/strong>, du grec signifiant trois<\/em> et de Themis. Themis n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 un nom de libellule \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tabli comme \u00e9l\u00e9ment dans les noms de genres de libellules par Hagen (1861), lorsqu\u2019il a d\u00fb nommer de nombreux nouveaux genres nord-am\u00e9ricains. Son mod\u00e8le \u00e9tait les noms en \u2013etrum sugg\u00e9r\u00e9s, pour les nouveaux genres de libellules, par Newman (1833) (par exemple Orthetrum, voir p. 113). Mais comme les noms d\u2019esp\u00e8ces adjectivaux s\u2019ils \u00e9taient transf\u00e9r\u00e9s de Libellula, \u00e0 un genre en \u2013etrum<\/em>, devaient \u00eatre chang\u00e9s de genre en neutre, Hagen a \u00e9vit\u00e9 de tels changements en choisissant l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment f\u00e9minin \u2013themis comme deuxi\u00e8me partie des nouveaux noms (voir Hagen 1888), signifiant simplement \u00ab genre de libellule \u00bb. Il a probablement \u00e9t\u00e9 inspir\u00e9 dans son choix par des noms de dieux, dans la nomenclature comme Nehalennia ou Cora.\u00a0
Themis est un excellent choix, c\u2019est la d\u00e9esse de la justice et de l\u2019ordre, ce qui s\u2019applique tr\u00e8s bien \u00e0 une classification.
Son nom d’esp\u00e8ce \u00e9voque Hecate<\/strong>, d\u00e9esse de la magie et des spectres, peut-\u00eatre en raison de sa couleur sombre et du fait qu’\u00e0 quelque distance, elle n’appara\u00eet que comme une silhouette sur fond clair (d’o\u00f9 un de ses noms anglais de Silhouette Dropwing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
