Encore un Trithemis qui n’est pas trop difficile \u00e0 identifier avec son abdomen tr\u00e8s fin qui porte des triangles noirs de plus en plus importants vers l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 ; en fait la coloration noire remonte progressivement quand on progresse vers la fin de l’abdomen, au point que S8 est \u00e0 moiti\u00e9 noir, et S9 compl\u00e8tement noir le plus souvent. Le reste de l’abdomen est rouge assez clair alors que le thorax est cramoisi ou vineux, un peu comme T. annulata. Le front est rouge sans tache m\u00e9tallis\u00e9e sombre.
Trithemis arteriosa est grand comme un petit Sympetrum de nos r\u00e9gions, 31 \u00e0 38 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette position avec les ailes plus basses que le thorax est une posture pr\u00e9f\u00e9rentielle des Trithemis, qui prennent d’ailleurs le nom g\u00e9n\u00e9rique de Dropwing en anglais.\u00a0
En l’occurrence, il s’appelle Red-veined Dropwing, et il n’est pas besoin d’expliquer ce que sont les veines rouges\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0
Et on les observe tr\u00e8s, tr\u00e8s souvent dans cette position…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heureusement, de temps en temps, on arrive \u00e0 les surprendre avant qu’ils ne s’installent sur leur perchoir, ici quelques secondes apr\u00e8s un atterrissage contre le vent. \u00a0<\/span>Et cette photo est int\u00e9ressante pour l’identification des m\u00e2les, mais surtout des femelles<\/span> qui sont souvent tr\u00e8s difficiles pour les Trithemis ; on note sur le thorax de ce m\u00e2le mature (mais pas trop !) les trois bandes sombres obliques nettement<\/em> s\u00e9par\u00e9es ; mais aussi un petit trait noir plus ant\u00e9rieur, plus haut sur le thorax, et un autre en bas qui soulignent la suture ante hum\u00e9rale en s’interrompant en son milieu.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Le m\u00eame m\u00e2le quelques secondes plus tard qui a adopt\u00e9 la classique attitude des Dropwing<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 le long de l’Okavango, de l’Omatako, et sur diff\u00e9rentes mares.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles sont plus difficiles \u00e0 identifier et peuvent \u00eatre confondues avec celles de Trithemis annulata. Apr\u00e8s un tri minutieux, je n’ai finalement de photos que d’une seule femelle, photos \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s identiques ; il faut dire que Trithemis arteriosa est moins commun que son cousin T. annulata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On voit tr\u00e8s bien sur la femelle ci-dessous les caract\u00e8res d’identification mentionn\u00e9s pour le m\u00e2le : les 3 lignes noires thoraciques, la plus ant\u00e9rieure interrompue en son milieu, les triangles sombres abdominaux de plus en plus importants qui finissent par donner un S9 compl\u00e8tement noir. Ici une photo<\/a> de T. annulata femelle pour comparaison.
Cette photo d’une libellule pos\u00e9e sur une \u00e9pine d’acacia m’a fait penser que le travail de la Pie-gri\u00e8che \u00e9corcheur (Lanius collurio) doit \u00eatre simple en Afrique avec de tels instruments et elle m’a rappel\u00e9 cette photo<\/a> d’une Cordulia aenea empal\u00e9e…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
