On m’a r\u00e9cemment pos\u00e9 la question de savoir ce que les libellules faisaient de leurs pattes pendant le vol. J’ai donc chang\u00e9 la photo de Cordulia aenea pr\u00e9sente sur mon site depuis des ann\u00e9es pour celle-ci.
Elle n’est pas parfaite mais permet de mieux voir certains d\u00e9tails dont la position des pattes : les pattes moyennes et post\u00e9rieures sont repli\u00e9es sous le thorax, les pattes ant\u00e9rieures sont repli\u00e9es derri\u00e8re la t\u00eate. Ce sont donc les articulations entre les f\u00e9murs et les tibias qui sont au sommet derri\u00e8re les yeux.
Que les pattes soient rang\u00e9es sous le thorax semble r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 un souci d’a\u00e9rodynamisme, afin de r\u00e9duire la train\u00e9e<\/em>, mais pourquoi les pattes ant\u00e9rieures sont-elles plac\u00e9es derri\u00e8re la t\u00eate alors qu’anatomiquement elles pourraient tout aussi bien r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la m\u00eame logique (mais y en a-t-il une ?). Les pattes n’ont pas toutes le m\u00eame r\u00f4le et on sait que les pattes ant\u00e9rieures, si elles interviennent peu pour cramponner un support, sont capitales pour agripper les proies ; or comme les libellules chassent essentiellement en vol peut-\u00eatre sont elles plus facilement d\u00e9ploy\u00e9es \u00e0 partir de cette position.

En dehors de la forme de l’abdomen caract\u00e9ristiquement dilat\u00e9 dans les derniers segments, on note \u00e9galement l’importante pilosit\u00e9 de l’esp\u00e8ce. Et les yeux magnifiques !<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
