C’est au bord d’une gravi\u00e8re proche de Dax que j’ai rencontr\u00e9 ma premi\u00e8re et seule (carence bien vite rattrap\u00e9e) femelle fran\u00e7aise Trithemis annulata, perch\u00e9e haut dans un arbuste, en retrait de la pi\u00e8ce d’eau. Je l’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9e en Sicile et plus longuement en \u00c9thiopie<\/a> et en Namibie<\/a>.
Heureusement en France les probl\u00e8mes d’identification ne se pose pas ; c’est bien s\u00fbr (c’\u00e9tait ! \u00c0 l’\u00e9poque o\u00f9 j’ai \u00e9crit cette page, Trithemis kirbyi n’\u00e9tait pas arriv\u00e9 en France, mais reste tr\u00e8s rare) la seule femelle Trithemis implant\u00e9e sur le territoire m\u00e9tropolitain

Elle est tout de m\u00eame parfois confondue avec une femelle Sympetrum ou Crocothemis. Et en effet, elle a la base des yeux bleue comme les femelles Sympetrum fonscolombii ou Crocothemis erythraea, et m\u00eame une l\u00e9g\u00e8re tache alaire ambr\u00e9e comme ces derni\u00e8res.
Mais ses pattes sont enti\u00e8rement noires, ce qui exclut les 2 esp\u00e8ces pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, et surtout son thorax montre un motif particulier, sous forme de 4 bandes ou lignes noires accentuant les sutures, et plus ou moins fondues ensemble dans leur partie m\u00e9diane, un motif difficile \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et qu’il vaut mieux montrer en photo :

Le fait qu’elle se pose \u00e9galement avec les ailes tomb\u00e9es rend ce genre de photo difficile et on aper\u00e7oit souvent le motif thoracique \u00e0 travers les ailes ant\u00e9rieures.

Sur une vue dorsale, il peut \u00eatre difficile de s\u00e9parer les femelles S. fonscolombii de Trithemis annulata ; cependant, si toutes deux portent des marques noires sur les derniers segments, ces taches ont une forme particuli\u00e8re pour le Trithemis pourpr\u00e9 ; sur le 9\u00b0 segment, elles sont tr\u00e8s \u00e9largies \u00e0 l’apex, mais aussi \u00e0 la base, \u00e9largies aussi \u00e0 la base et \u00e0 l’apex sur le S9 beaucoup plus sombre que celui du Sympetrum de Fonscolombe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On peut voir ici<\/a>, comme \u00e0 9000 km de la France, elles ont tout \u00e0 fait le m\u00eame aspect.

L’accouplement est tr\u00e8s bref et a\u00e9rien, la ponte survient aussit\u00f4t, la femelle rasant l’eau pour l\u00e2cher ses \u0153ufs, ce que je n’ai jamais observ\u00e9 ni vu en photo (lacune r\u00e9par\u00e9e en octobre 2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
