Epitheca bimaculata m\u00e2le \u00e9mergent

\u00c0 peu pr\u00e8s 5 minutes apr\u00e8s avoir fait la longue route depuis mon Maine-et-Loire, R\u00e9gis (Krieg-Jacquier) (1), expert \u00e8s Epitheca bimaculata, entre autres, avec lequel j’avais rendez-vous, m’a guid\u00e9 vers mon premier m\u00e2le de l’esp\u00e8ce, au bord de cet \u00e9tang forestier, ou plus exactement sur la digue de cet \u00e9tang. Malheureusement, il ne fait pas beau (il vient de pleuvoir), et nous sommes \u00e0 l’ombre des grands arbres qui bordent la route.
C’est un m\u00e2le \u00e9mergent, les ailes encore serr\u00e9es, bien cach\u00e9 sous le feuillage, immobile. J’ai profit\u00e9 de cette immobilit\u00e9 pour photographier les appendices anaux tr\u00e8s caract\u00e9ristiques :

Sur une vue dorsale, les cerco\u00efdes arqu\u00e9s sont fortement divergents ; ils surplombent une lame anale bifide dont les 2 branches sont cach\u00e9es sous eux. Une branche de la lame anale<\/a> est bien visible de profil.
J’ai pu m’approcher tr\u00e8s pr\u00e8s :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et sur ce clich\u00e9, on voit tr\u00e8s bien les ommatidies<\/a>, en tout cas celles de la partie sup\u00e9rieure de l’\u0153il, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 elles sont plus larges.
On note bien s\u00fbr la forte pilosit\u00e9, et notamment le petit plumeau \u00e9tonnant entre les 2 yeux !
25 minutes plus tard, les ailes se sont d\u00e9ploy\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et j’ai pu observer cette grande et magnifique libellule aux ailes tellement ambr\u00e9es, ce qui n’est pas constant comme je pourrais le constater sur d’autres sujets. On note d’ailleurs souvent cette coloration chez les jeunes Corduliidae.

\u00c0 ce stade, si on fait porte un minimum d’attention, il est impossible de le confondre avec une autre esp\u00e8ce : en dehors des ailes ambr\u00e9es, on remarque la tache alaire basale tr\u00e8s sombre qui pourrait faire penser au genre Libellula et particuli\u00e8rement avec cette couleur fauve, \u00e0 Libellula quadrimaculata<\/em> ou surtout Libellula fulva<\/em> dont il est proche ; mais la ligne sombre qui parcourt compl\u00e8tement la face dorsale de son abdomen s’\u00e9largit sur les derniers segments au point de les occuper compl\u00e8tement, ce qui lui est unique.

Epitheca bimaculata appara\u00eet plus sombre avec, en outre, une forte ligne noire soulignant la car\u00e8ne<\/a> thoracique et des bandes ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rales \u00e9galement tr\u00e8s fortes, comme on le voit bien ci-dessous. Encore une fois les appendices anaux tr\u00e8s divergents sont typiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une esp\u00e8ce un peu frustrante, car la plupart des observateurs ne la connaissent que sous forme \u00e9mergente ou tr\u00e8s jeune immature. En effet, son vol inaugural<\/a> l’emporte g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement haut dans les arbres, ou elle maturera avant de revenir parcourir les grands \u00e9tangs, loin des berges, loin des observateurs. Trouver un sujet mature pos\u00e9 est assez exceptionnel en France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
