Le 8 mai 2021 mon ami R\u00e9gis Krieg-Jacquier m’a fait d\u00e9couvrir l’\u00e9tang de Fougemagne \u00e0 Coligny<\/a>, dans l’Ain.
Dix minutes apr\u00e8s \u00eatre descendus de voiture, \u00e0 30 m\u00e8tres du parking, nous avons d\u00e9couvert cette larve dans un angle de la digue, \u00e0 3 m\u00e8tres de la berge.<\/a>

L’identification de la larve est imm\u00e9diate ; elle est la seule \u00e0 porter 2 \u00e9pines sur le front. Elle partage avec Cordulia aenea, autre Corduliidae, des bandes noires sur le thorax, mais elle porte de spectaculaires \u00e9pines dorsales sur les segments abdominaux et les \u00e9pines lat\u00e9rales du 9\u00b0 segment sont singuli\u00e8rement longues.

La premi\u00e8re photo est faite \u00e0 10 heures 31, les yeux apparaissent sur la 4\u00b0 photo \u00e0 10 heures 48 (un clic sur les photos les ouvre en pleine page).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je trouve la 5\u00b0 photo (10:48) spectaculaire et amusante : elle simule un alien, les ocelles se prenant pour des yeux, d\u00e9vorant une substance qui s’\u00e9crase sous sa gueule… \ud83d\ude31 A 10:49 la t\u00eate est d\u00e9gag\u00e9e et les trach\u00e9es<\/a>, fils blancs, deviennent bien visibles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les photos ci-dessous s’\u00e9chelonnent de 10:49 \u00e0 11:07.
Le thorax s’extrait progressivement ; c’est une succession de br\u00e8ves tractions avec de longues minutes d’inactivit\u00e9 pendant lesquelles j’ai pu faire toute une s\u00e9rie de photos tr\u00e8s rapproch\u00e9es que je montrerai ailleurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entre la 5\u00b0 et 6\u00b0 photo se produit l’instant qu’il ne faut pas rater, le spectaculaire retournement, o\u00f9 la larve, telle un gymnaste, se redresse, cramponne son exuvie et extrait le reste de son abdomen. Ce que j’ai manqu\u00e9, car occup\u00e9 dans les secondes pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes \u00e0 faire des gros plans, l’objectif mont\u00e9 sur mon appareil photo ne me permettait pas de cadrer assez large…
La derni\u00e8re photo montre les appendices anaux m\u00e2les, spectaculairement divergents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les 6 photos suivantes se d\u00e9roulent de 11:08 \u00e0 11:34.
L’\u00e9mergence se d\u00e9roulant au pied d’un grand arbre, la luminosit\u00e9 varie, car le soleil suit sa route \u00e0 la limite de la couronne de feuilles. Mais cela ne d\u00e9range pas le n\u00e9onate, pardon le n\u00e9oodonate.
Les ailes compress\u00e9es dans leurs \u00e9tuis larvaires s’\u00e9tendent progressivement sous la pression de l’h\u00e9molymphe et en quelques minutes, elles sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 plus longues que l’abdomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Progressivement, les ailes deviennent hyalines et l’abdomen s’\u00e9tire \u00e0 son tour. Noter la diff\u00e9rence entre la derni\u00e8re photo ci-dessus et la premi\u00e8re ci-dessous entre lesquelles il s’est \u00e9coul\u00e9 23 minutes. Mais les transformations prennent plus de temps et si la premi\u00e8re de cette derni\u00e8re s\u00e9rie a \u00e9t\u00e9 prise \u00e0 11:57, la derni\u00e8re, avant l’envol, l’a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 13:27.

\u00c0 13:09, on observe une premi\u00e8re tentative d’\u00e9carter les ailes, mais elles se replient, pour ne s’ouvrir vraiment qu’\u00e0 13:19, soit deux heures et demie apr\u00e8s que la larve a d\u00e9chir\u00e9 son enveloppe.
Il semble ne rien se passer pendant un long moment ; on estime que les ailes se durcissent pour se pr\u00e9parer au vol inaugural. Aussi d\u00e9cidons-nous vers 13 heures 30 d’explorer les berges un peu plus loin.
