Voici quelques photos tr\u00e8s rapproch\u00e9es de l’\u00e9mergence de ce m\u00e2le Epitheca bimaculata.
28 minutes apr\u00e8s que la cuticule a \u00e9t\u00e9 fendue voici l’aspect de l’aile post\u00e9rieure, encore compl\u00e8tement ratatin\u00e9e<\/em>, ayant un peu un aspect de villosit\u00e9 intestinale…
L’aile ant\u00e9rieure, juste au-dessus, a encore moins \u00e9volu\u00e9. Le fil blanc est bien s\u00fbr une trach\u00e9e respiratoire<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La future libellule est toujours t\u00eate en bas et c’est l’occasion d’identifier les pi\u00e8ces buccales qui ne sont normalement pas visibles. Il faut imaginer que l’\u00e9mergence est une explosion, que la pression de l’h\u00e9molymphe est tr\u00e8s importante et toutes les pi\u00e8ces mobiles repli\u00e9es ont tendance \u00e0 s’ouvrir, \u00e0 se d\u00e9plier, exactement comme l’appareil g\u00e9nital secondaire appara\u00eet expuls\u00e9 \u00e0 l’ext\u00e9rieur pendant cette phase, comme on va le voir plus bas.
On voit tr\u00e8s bien, en cliquant sur la photo les incisives<\/em> \u00e0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 de la mandibule, les molaires<\/em> restant cach\u00e9es plus \u00e0 l’int\u00e9rieur.
Les maxilles dot\u00e9es de palpes sensitifs et de parties fortement ac\u00e9r\u00e9es et scl\u00e9rifi\u00e9es participent \u00e0 la capture de la proie et \u00e0 la mastication.
Le labrum est assimil\u00e9 grossi\u00e8rement \u00e0 la l\u00e8vre sup\u00e9rieure et le labium \u00e0 la l\u00e8vre inf\u00e9rieure, il faut bien garder \u00e0 l’esprit que la libellule a toujours la t\u00eate en bas \u00e0 cet instant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme dit plus haut, les organes g\u00e9nitaux secondaires sont expuls\u00e9s de la fosse g\u00e9nitale sous le 2\u00b0 segment abdominal par la pression de l’h\u00e9molymphe et on voit tr\u00e8s distinctement les 4 segments (S1 \u00e0 S4) du p\u00e9nis<\/em> ou v\u00e9sicule s\u00e9minale, selon les auteurs. \u00c0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du 3\u00b0 segment on aper\u00e7oit l’orifice d’une valve qui permet au m\u00e2le de remplir sa v\u00e9sicule s\u00e9minale de son sperme en une gymnastique abouchant le 9\u00b0 segment (l\u00e0 o\u00f9 il est produit) de son abdomen au second (l\u00e0 o\u00f9 il est utilis\u00e9) et ceci g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement apr\u00e8s la capture de la femelle (ici<\/a> la sc\u00e8ne pour Enallagma cyathigerum) !
Les hamuli ant\u00e9rieurs sont des hame\u00e7ons<\/em>, des crampons qui assurent la coh\u00e9sion des pi\u00e8ces g\u00e9nitales m\u00e2les et femelles pendant l’accouplement (hamulus suffirait sans doute, il n’y a pas d’hamulus post\u00e9rieur pour Epitheca).
La cornua \u00e0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du p\u00e9nis est un flagelle qui permet au m\u00e2le de d\u00e9placer et repousser au loin dans la spermath\u00e8que de la femelle le sperme des m\u00e2les qui se sont pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment accoupl\u00e9s avec elle de fa\u00e7on \u00e0 maximiser ses chances d’avoir une descendance.
La ligula a pour r\u00f4le de permettre l’intromission du p\u00e9nis en s’introduisant entre les valvules de l’ovipositeur de la femelle et de soutenir la v\u00e9sicule s\u00e9minale pendant le remplissage de la spermath\u00e8que de la femelle (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque la libellule \u00e9mergente se redresse la t\u00eate de l’exuvie \u00e0 laquelle sont accroch\u00e9es les pattes du sujet \u00e9mergent devient bien visible. \u00c0 gauche on voit comme l’exuvie est fendue \u00e0 la base de l’\u0153il pour permettre la sortie de la t\u00eate, premier \u00e9l\u00e9ment \u00e0 appara\u00eetre. On remarque les fourreaux des antennes et les dents<\/em> du masque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’\u00e9volution des yeux est consid\u00e9rable entre la seconde photo et celle-ci ; il s’est \u00e9coul\u00e9 26 minutes. On distingue les yeux \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires ou ommatidies, plus faciles \u00e0 voir dans la partie sup\u00e9rieure de l’\u0153il, car plus larges.
