- Observed on a large, shallow pond in an open environment, but it also accepts temporary pools and slow-flowing river stretches.
- In the company of: Azuragrion vansomereni, Lestes ochraceus, Diplacodes lefebvri, Ischnura senegalensis, and an exuvia of Anax tristis.
- Size: 34 to 40 mm.
- Geographical distribution: southern Africa, south of a line joining Senegal to Somalia, Madagascar, and the Comoros.

- luminans, from the Latin luminans ("illuminating," "radiant"), referring to the bright and luminous coloration of the species.
